Sorry about the confusion. It never occurred to me ask for the specific inventory amounts (nor did I know people did ask). Anyway I bought 10, I walked over to the locked case for distribution b/c they were moving things around so they counted them out for me and the pile that was there was significantly larger than what was handed to me. I may go back later this week and if I do, I'll ask for specific #s.

Now obviously, we do not know the exact payment terms on these gift cards. But I will be very surprised that AA gets paid anytime before we pay for them.
As you probably are aware, an account payable represents money that is owed, not money that might be owed if the item happens to sell.

Yeah. I know what you mean. I have two of those cardboard parts always in my car's trunk that I just bring with me so I don't have to hunt around for them.

Thanks for the follow-up. I might try the SC location in a few weeks when I'm out there, but I think they might be gone by then. The PIT Costco doesn't carry them.

You do realize those were not complimentary right?

I just have a pic of the bar code & number in my cell phone. If the cashier can't scan the pic they just enter the number.

I don't even go to the cashier. I just go to the pickup area and they ring it up there. No waiting in line. Even when we had other CostCo stuff, we bought these separately right at the pickup window.

Cheers.

I did read the part where it said "don't take with you," but you know, I like to live dangerously.

Wow. Good to know this tip. I'll try that this weekend.

No need. Costco won't return them, they will keep them until gone. So fewer buying, more for you down the line.

On the other hand I was clutching the cardboard thing checking out with friends who knew nothing about the deal. Friend knew a value, bought 10, I bought 20. Checker nodded to me and said "She's going round trip."

The pickup desk told me I could return the GC anytime, well, maybe not 10 years from now...

What if I buy 100 cards, charge them on SPG Amex, get my points, then a year or five from now return the cards. And never use the card again. Can I keep the points?

I am guessing it's mostly to do with how SPG Amex handles returns in general, and has little to do with Costco as such. I've had cards where returns result in removal of miles, and cards that do not.

Picked up a bunch at SF today, still available but the display was moved from a big one right opposite the checkout stands (prime real estate) to back in a narrow aisle behind the electronics stuff. Thinking they must be running low.

No. Like returning anything on your Amex, the points would be adjusted on your next billing statement after the return posts.

A Costco in Carlsbad has 60 left as of five minutes ago. I'd buy a few, but my travel will be either China or Canada-origin for the foreseeable future.
