A real update

From one I would consider an extremely reliable source:

I agree. It's probably best to leave the code monkeys to their reindeer games and rely on credible information.

Yeah, historically reliable. Good to know.

Text from post:

AAgents being advised that change will take place "around Summer 2011"

And, most importantly, members WILL be given notice-- currently estimated to be 2 months notice.

Needless to say, this info is not "carved in stone", not official, subject to change, and one must use it as such-- at your own damn risk.

However, if they are to give the 2 months notice, one assumes we will be getting that notice within a pretty short period of time now.

I hope this won't stop the flow of unsubstantiated speculation that has meant so much to this thread

You left out the most important piece of information:

"AAgents are strongly discouraged from discussing these arrangements with members for now, so stop buggin' 'em!"

I love how any real content on FT comes from other websites.

Not really true. The OP of the thread provided original information.

Yes, but it was more of an observation than breaking news. The data point was hardly actionable.

1. Allow about 6 months' lead time before the changes take effect. That should give them a burst of mileage purchases, credit card charges, mileage runs, etc. for those of us who are close to 1MM or 2MM. It will also avoid alienating those of us in this category. As has been pointed out multiple times, AA gets revenue from us in many forms.

2. If any type of miles no longer qualifies towards MM status, do not apply this change to Lifetime miles already counted.
I would add:

3. If any member is more than halfway in achieving a milestone, then the existing rules are 'grandfathered' until that milestone is reached.

Can anyone comment on whether up until now those crossing 1mm still receive 8 e500 upgrades if they have a North American (for AAdvantage purposes) address and 4 SWU upgrades if their address is outside of that territory?

Why do I think that they are making the decision on when to announce/implement changes based on whether they want all of the extra revenue from people topping off miles/signing on with partners who purchase miles in huge blocks (like financial partners) to go in Q2 or Q3? If they are very close to goals for Q2 then perhaps they'll induce people to go on mileage binges prior to 7/1, while if they're already way behind it may make more sense to get it to happen in Q3, when they still have a chance of meeting predictions.
