Embargo on boxes, excess, oversize and overweight baggage for LPB
Anyone else notice this? There is a "permanent" embargo on boxes as well as excess, oversize and overweight baggage for La Paz, Bolivia. I guess that means only suitcases weighing less than 50lbs will be permitted? Hmmmm, I have my Amex Plat $200/year benefit on AA because of travel to Bolivia when I almost always have to pay for overweight baggage, but it appears I won't even be able to check a bag if it's overweight.

Where have you read that you can't check an overweight bag? On the relevant page on aa.com here it states:
"Bags weighing 51-70 lbs. will be accepted with the collection of the applicable charge"
"Bags weighing 51-70 lbs. will be accepted with the collection of the applicable charge"
AA clearly defines the definition of "overweight" in the sentence just before yours:
For the destinations identified below, boxes† and excess, overweight (more than 70lbs.), or oversized pieces will not be accepted for transportation.
And the OP does seem to be speaking explicitly of "overweight" (i.e. 70lb+) bags.

Yes, I should have made the distinction between overweight and heavy. I tend to bring "overweight" (70+ lb) luggage with me. Didn't even think about the 51-70 lbs still being allowed.
I guess I will bring 2 bags, each weighing 70lbs. If I read it correctly, I cannot bring a 3rd bag, regardless of the weight or if I am willing to pay. Same goes with boxes, NO boxes allowed period.

Well, if you're willing to pay for business class you can bring three bags...

Correct. Amex didn't change anything as far as I know.
