Checking baggage all the way through but on 2 different itineraries
Sorry if this is a duplicate but I've tried searching using variations of itineraries and multiple and pnr and luggage and baggage but could not find anything.
My GF and I had originally planned a two-week trip to London but it turns out we don't have to be there nearly as long. So, we decided to burn some extra miles and go to Cape Town from London.
Our original itinerary has us doing DFW-LHR and back on AA. Now, we'll be in London for 4 days and then do a second round-trip itinerary LHR-JNB-CPT on BA. Coming back home, we're doing CPT-JNB-LHR on Itinerary 2 and then LHR-DFW on Itinerary 1.
I'd like to know if, when we check in at the BA counter in CPT on our way to LHR, we can have them check our bags all the way to DFW, even though the LHR-DFW leg is on a completely different itinerary?
Thanks to everyone in advance.

Yes you can... just show a copy of your itinerary from AA.

Yes (as Emma Dog said). Now, your next challenge is to get the UK APD refunded for the LHR-DFW leg:

Success and Not
I have done it a couple of times from the US to MVD flying to EZE on Continental and AA to MVD. Once it was easy to do it and another time it was a challenge talking the agent into accomplishing the feat. In a couple of weeks I'll be flying Pluna AEP-MVD and then on AA MVD-SEA. Wonder if Pluna will cooperate in checking the bag thru.
