AA's domestic Continental Breakfast (K code) means a setup tray containing a dish of sliced fruit (usually a few slices of melon and a strawberry), and your choice of biscuit or bagel with butter, fruit preserves, or cream cheese. Of course, you will also get coffee, tea, orange juice and other juices, water, and alcoholic beverages IF they have been loaded and local laws permit service at that hour.

(no cereal or omelet, as those dishes are "Breakfast" and not "Continental" options)

Actually, this is usually cereal, banana, cup of blueberries (or raisins), yogurt, and choice of bagel or biscuit. Has been for at least a full year if not longer.

The old fruit and bagel/biscuit used to be the continental breakfast, but it has been significantly enhanced, at least in my experience on this route and LGA/ORD, ORD/DFW, etc.

Oh! This is good news! Yes, those routes (LGA-ORD, RDU-ORD, etc) are the ones I was thinking about....fortunately I no longer fly them, at least not for breakfast. :)

Kind of funny since LGA-ORD gets a hot breakfast.

Not really. Pretty sure CO/UA mainline gets a hot breakfast on that route.

Its not a time thing either. The EWR-ORD AA morning flight is blocked at 2:55 - over the 2:30 usually required for hot breakfast.

My best guess would be that AA doesn't really care that much about traffic out of EWR, they serve a meal at least. AA gets the over flow traffic from UA/CO (there will always before people who don't like UA/CO and would rather fly someone else.) Since AA really push's its NY flights I can see why JFK and LGA flights are catered better.

That would be my best guess too. EWR flights always come up in AA.com as the least desirable (versus JFK/LGA), thus often the last to have AAward inventory and cheap fare buckets. So, I'm guessing AA does not consider EWR to be a very important station.

Let's just hope that some of the domestic lunch options have been retired in the new year that have appeared for the past gazillion years.........i.e. Chicken Cobb Salad, Cheeseburger, Salmon Salad, Cheese Enchilada and several others.
