I am ow in Japan and wish to speak with a platinum desk rep. The number on the back of my plat card apparently has been discontinued.... Great! Tried the Tokyo AA office & no help at all. Please help ASAP...

I called the us number last time when I was in Japan.
As far as I can tell, the regular AA number operates only a 9 to 5 business and the plat number did not work (May 2010).

There is no special platinum desk, at least not in the US, and I doubt there is one in Japan. In the US, the PLT numbers gets you to an agent faster, but they are the same agents, used by Gold and non-elites. There are special Executive Platinum agents, however.

Thanks for the info. I was just calling the # on the back of my platinum card & expected it to work.. That there is no plat desk, even in the US can explain why some agents seem to know much more than others... I ultimately had someone phone the plat # from the US and I got much better service.

Whenever possible, I use a VOIP service (Skype in my case) exclusively in my international-travel-disruption-situations in order to reach the US agents.
