Thumbs up AA Status Match "up to Gold or Platinum" to U of Florida Alumni Assoc. Life Members

Just got an email from the University of Florida Alumni Association.

AA is matching any other airline's status "up to Gold or Plat" for all UF Alumni Association Life Members.

Life Members,

American Airlines/American Eagle will begin non-stop air service from Gainesville to Miami on October 1, 2010 and would like to make you a special offer.

American Airlines is offering a status match of other frequent flier programs to all Life Members. They invite you to enroll in their frequent flier program and to send your NEW Frequent Flier Number and other frequent flier number, along with level of membership, to [email protected].

American Airlines will match your status up to gold or platinum. This status match offer is only available through October 15th, 2010. Additionally, American Airlines is offering a special introductory fare and double miles for a limited time.
A life membership is $800 and a joint life membership is only $200 more. A nice way to get a lifetime (tax-deductible) membership and elite status with AA for up to 2 people...

Thanks for posting that!

Mind you, if one is a frequent flier on CO, BA, DL, NW, UA or US with status, or working for specific companies, one can get status matched at no cost, currently. This is a good deal for those intending to fly frequently on AA and who are / wish to become Life Members of the UFAU, though if they are intending to fly frequently with AA anyway they may find a Challenge (see Wiki, FAQ and Challenge thread) more economical.

AA offer

FT thread: AA status match Gold / Plat for elites of certain airlines, specific companies
(into which this threadlet will be merged once October 15 2010 passes).

Seeing that American flies to Miami, what should I be entitled to as being a member of the University of Miami Alumni Association? Maybe they could arrange a top-tier status match to Delta or United?

could an individual do the $40/year membership? In theory the status match is only for a given amount of time. I don't think this is lifetime status.

Is there any truth to the rumor that if one is both an alumni of the University of Florida and a "founder," one gets EXP?

And then there are certain school leagues that don't need status matches because we get status on our own

Cheers.
