Expanded Baggage Allowance for AA F & J Pax (Oct 2010)
As reported elsewhere - AA is going to expand the Baggage Allowance to align with BA for F&J passengers. This should make hillrider a happy camper.

I just flew IB in paid J with three FREE bags recently (the sad reason being moving mementos a dead relative), and having AA back as an option going forward is definitely welcomed.
Thanks for sharing the good news! ^

Just noticed this over at AA.

However there is no mention that they "will waive the heavy bag charge" like BA does
Attention First and Business Class Customers
We are pleased to offer customers in First and Business Class the ability to check three bags at no charge.

Just to clarify, this applies to all flying, including purely domestic.

We are pleased to offer customers in First and Business Class the ability to check three bags at no charge
Example, ORD-(AA)-NRT-(JL)-BKK
If I use SWU to upgrade ORD-NRT route and check 3 luggage, will I have trouble for NRT-BKK route in coach?
Thanks

No. In general, the only carrier that has the ability to charge or waive fees is the one that you initially check your bag with. All downstream carriers, assuming your luggage is checked through, do not have the ability to collect any baggage fees from you.

Tariff changes
The new allowances for F/J are "Customers who have purchased travel in First or Business Class are allowed 3 checked bags not to exceed 62in./153 cm. total linear dimensions or maximum weight of 70 lbs/32 kgs per bag at no charge. Customers who have purchased travel in other classes of service are allowed 2 checked bags not to exceed 62 in./153 cm total linear dimensions or maximum weight of 50 lbs./23 kgs. per bag at no charge". Note that there are exceptions for American Eagle: between U.S.A./Canada and VC/DM/GD/HT/TT (maximum weight is 50 lbs./23 kgs. per bag with the combined total of both bags not to exceed 70 lbs./32 kgs.), Between U.S.A./Canada and Bahamas (maximum weight is 50 lbs./23 kgs. per bag with the combined total of both bags not to exceed 100 lbs./46 kgs.) and Between U.S.A./Canada and intl. points in the Caribbean via SJU/STT/STX (maximum weight is 50 lbs./23 kgs. per bag with the combined total of both bags not to exceed 100 lbs./46 kgs.)
AA redefined the world measuring system, making 62 inches equal to variously either 152 or 153 centimeters instead of 158 as it was before (the exact number is 157.48). So while oversize baggage is still defined as a piece of baggage whose maximum outside linear dimensions exceed 62 inches, when measured in the ISO global measuring system the maximum linear dimension shrinks to 152 or 153 (depending on the rule) centimeters
The weight restriction for carry-on baggage, formerly 40 lb./18kg, has been removed.
The maximum bag size ("the sum of the greatest outside length plus the greatest outside height plus the greatest outside width") has been increased from 115 inches to 126 inches.
The number of articles of baggage in excess of the standard baggage allowance that AA accepts (upon payment of the excess baggage charges) is now limited to three.
Any portable musical instrument not exceeding 39 inches in length is no longer considered to be one piece of baggage at 39 inches. This rule used to apply only for transportation between points in Canada/United States and points in Mexico/ Central America/South America/Areas 2 and 3 and is no longer there.
AA got rid of a fee! (what are they thinking? ). Items listed in the DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations (49 CFR 171-177) and/or IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, which are accepted subject to advance arrangements and compliance with those regulations, were subject to a cost of USD 40/CAD 40 which is no longer there!

Also I cannot see anywhere the waiver of the $50 fee for bags up to 32kg. Is this another one of AA's unwritten/unofficial policies or is it published somewhere?

that's a nice perk! I once checked in at a first class counter in MEL flying Emirates due to lines and my heavy luggage was waived through b/c the weight limit is based on class of service (ie 30kg for economy, 40kg for business, 50kg for first)

Finally!
AA has lost high margin business over their substandard baggage policy for premium cabin travel.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Are AA EXP flying AA economy still stuck with 2 x 50 LBS (instead of the 3 x 70 LBS UA gives)?

What does this mean for customers that purchase travel in Economy, and upgrade to First or Business by means of an instrument such as stickers, miles or a SWU?
