Hawaii Vacation w/ kids on AA - EQM on HI interisland?

I am planning to go to Kauai and Big Island for my 12 day vacation with my kids. I am flying American First class from to HNL and taking Hawaiian Airlines for the local flight.
I have few questions about my trip.

1. Will I accrue American miles on Hawaiian Flight with AA flight Numbers ? If so is it elite qualified ?
2. What about the Hawaiian flights with out American flight #? Are those miles eligible for elite qualification ?
3. Do i need to pay for check baggages when i am connecting from American?
4. What are the activities for kids in Kauai Island ? This is my first trip hawaii.

Thank You,

1) Yes, if there is an AA flight number, you will earn miles as if it were an AA flight. That includes elite miles too.

2) Yes, and if you have status, you can earn a guaranteed 250 miles.

3) No

4) Can't answer that one

If it's an AA flight # - yes to EQMs also.

Note that the only flights on HA that earn EQM are interisland flights, and not flights from the mainland to Hawaii.

Probably best to post this portion of your query in FTs Hawaii forum.

I can help you with questions 3 & 4.

You will pay for checked bags if you are checking them onto Hawaiian metal. The quote from the Hawaiian Air gate agent was "We have our own loyalty program so your American status doesn't count". If bags are being transferred from AA to Hawaiian, they won't charge you. It's only when you check in at the Hawaiian gate.

All of Hawaii is awesome and you will find plenty to do with the kids. Kauai is "The Garden Island" and has some of the most beautiful landscape on the planet (Think Jurassic Park without the dinosaurs, but with a lot of roosters). If you kids like adventures and hiking, etc, you will love it.

Have a great trip.

There have been some incorrect responses to the OP.

The rules for earning Aadvantage miles can, oddly enough, be found under the AAdvantage tab on AA.com. Direct link here.

You will earn miles on fare class: F,P,A,X,Y,V,S,I.

All other purchased fares will not earn miles, including Hawaiian Airlines codeshare flights operated by Island Air.
