Speculation: If (US+UA), will AA+CO be possible?

With the news about US & UA talking merger, it made me wonder whether -- ASSUMING such a merger was completed -- an AA + CO merger would have a better chance of getting approved.

The antitrust issues are still major (Texas; NYC; Latin America). But, in the time it took for US + UA to crumble of its own chaotic weight, such a deal might actually get thru...

Didn't CO just switch to *A recently? I also think they have been increasing co-operation with UA on codeshares and elite recognition. I don't think CO would be keen to unravel and join AA. Would have been nicer for AA to have gotten NW and Asian routes, but alas...

This will never happen. Quit dreaming.

If anything, CO + UA will be a closer tie. You folks can take US.

Personally, I think Oneworld is subpar, CO would lose my business if it was forced into oneworld.

With O having gates/slots at LHR, I doubt that they would want to complicate ATI by pursuing CO. And, since we're dreaming, I'd rather than AA pursue being AS into full OW membership, if not an outright purchase.

AA/CO would be a disaster in the DOT process. Complete market overlap with EWR/JFK/LGA, IAH/DFW, CLE/ORD. It would be ugly.

I could imagine CO-AS long before CO-AA.

and what would be the alternative for a New Yorker? Skyteam?

nevertheless, UA-US is not believable. sounds like UA trying to get CO re-interested by flirting with another.

Yes, if the CO management runs the show, and UA/US become one.
Having CO management in charge may solve the AA Pilot and FA anomosity issue with Arpey.

Maybe B6 will buy AA and move HQ back to New York.

Yesterday, Ted Reed posted this story about the US pilots and their labor agreements:

I doubt that UA is seriously thinking of taking on the US pilot labor quagmire.

I am sure that is really keeping the CO SLT awake a night, and the major concern of the board as they look to enter into any merger or acquisition...

Isn't this what ended the discussions a couple of years ago before CO got into bed with Untied?

If UA + US happens, we should finally be able to answer the age old question "Do two wrongs make a right?"

Fair question.

Of course, wouldn't it be great to see CO move from ST to *A then OW with in a one to two year span!

What's odd about this story is that US, the smaller of the two, is the one in talks to buy out UA. Who'da thunk it, I'd thought it be the other way around.

Better yet, why not have AA offer a better deal to buy out UA? Now THAT would be an interesting deal!
