Observations & Ruminations about AAdvantage Account Numbers (consolidated)

Why do they always end in even numbers? Does anyone have an account that ends in an odd number?

I just thought I'd throw it out there since the board is in dire need of new and substantive discussion topics. And this topic is very much AAdvantage-related!

Come to think of it, none of the AAdvantage numbers I've ever seen (particularly those for family/friends whose travel I book) end in an odd number. ALL of them end in an even number.

(Note that, originally, AAdvantage numbers had numerical characters only. Then, around the early 90s, they started using three letters followed by four numbers. Nowadays, it's a random combination of numbers and letters, but, as we both seem to have noticed, they always end in an even number.)

Well, I'm not sure have a very statistically significant data set at this point, but having said that, yes, both my and the SO's numbers end with an even.

There's probably some über class of members (above CK, EXP,etc.) that have the odd ending. Obviously they can't tell us about it (even if they did post here), but I think Dan Brown is writing a book about them.

(By the way, mine and mrs. brp's accounts even in even numbers )

Cheers.

It is generally considered to be even, although there is room for interpretation.
Of the 8 family accounts I monitor, none end in 0, and end with an even number.

Why is there room for interpretation? "Evenness" is defined by being divisible by 2 with no remainder. Zero follows that precisely, with no room for doubt. How could it be anything else? I'm amazed that there's even a question about this.

Cheers.

You're right about that. It should be a great thriller - some say it will be something between "Lifeboat", "Up in the Air" and "Digital Fortress" called "The Arpeynet Conspiracy" iirc. My and Lady JDiver's FFNs also end in even numbers; they'd probably have to kill us if we found out what an odd-ending FFN meant.

It's good to see us finally taking on these weighty issues in a more serious vein.

Hmmm,
5 accounts in my household.

All are even.

Two of them end in 4 and two end in 6.

Just to be precise (after all, this is a mathematical definition after all ):

Zero is not considered to be even. Zero is by definition even.

Cheers.

Three accounts in our family. Two US-based, format A1234A2, both have even final digits. One based in Germany, format 123ABC0 -- yes, that's a zero at the end. So nothing odd here, either.
