AA does good: Miles for Haiti Donations
AA flies to Haiti and has been mentioned in the news about being in talks with the gov't about how quickly it can resume its flights. AE has already been helping with relief flights (see linked article). Now, AA and AE are also giving us a small incentive to donate to the Haitian relief efforts ^^. We've had posts before about AA charitable efforts and I continue to be impressed by AA's heart :).
The miles for donations will be available on Thursday. I'll edit this thread once it's available. From the Dallas News link/: American said that as Thursday, AAdvantage members who donate at least $50 to the Red Cross can earn 250 bonus AAdvantage miles. A $100 donation brings 500 miles. Check the aa.com Web site on Thursday. Said Peter J. Dolara, American's senior vice president for Mexico, Caribbean and Latin America: "Help is urgently needed in Haiti. By partnering with the American Red Cross, we can ensure contributions will support timely efforts to provide much-needed assistance to the millions of people affected by the earthquake. "We invite our customers to join us in supporting the American Red Cross, and it is with our deepest appreciation that we acknowledge their generosity with this opportunity to earn AAdvantage miles." |
The links are already up.

I'm not an AA flyer, but I was informed that AA will fly doctors and nurses to Haiti by calling 212-697-9767. I've never personally called the number, but I was just told the news (as a medical professional).

I'm hoping to hear that AA has flown a couple 763 or 777 MIA-PAP loaded with bottled water; without a lot of clean water, and fast, many more will die. :(
AA's 777 has sufficient payload to carry about 120,000 half-litre bottles. |

Put it into perspective: there are only TWO airlines offering any kind of incentive. Continental, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Southwest United, US Airways, Virgin America so far have nothing in place like this. Nor have I seen any hotels participating yet, either.

I donated through the site, as per AA.com's instructions, but have not received an email from ARC yet...

Thank you to all who are donating.
The pictures out of Haiti just break your heart - the word tragedy seeems so inadequate at this time. :( |
