I think the ORD G AC has the smallest quite zone. I quiet using it though.

If pointing at the sign fails, I sit down next to them and join the conversation.

"Does the CEO know about this?"

"I think that plan is doomed to fail!"

"Oh yeah, that is a good escort service!"

"Sir, your double Long Island Iced Tea."

I don't think we can really call it a quiet zone being that the TV is in the same room, but it would certainly be quieter without cell phones.

I’ve learned that the smoking rooms of the DFW A and D or the business area at LAX are the real “quiet areas." In secluded areas like these, people tend to be more attentive to their surroundings, talking in a whisper, and more considerate toward others.

The AC designated “quiet zones” are located in areas where there’s a bunch of sounds around them. There’s no obstruction or walls, it’s just open air space so you can hear the clinks and clangs at the bar, people going in and out with their rollerboards, talking on their phones, hearing sounds of the TV etc. Even though maybe designated as a quiet zone, there's not much differentiation from the other busy areas. It's like creating a "quiet zone" at Starbucks; it's not going to work.

A bit off topic here, but there is actually reception in the LAX admirals club. Perhaps it's because I am with AT&T, but I always had trouble picking a signal at LAX T4.

I think more often than not, it's just the typical self-absorbedness, but I wonder how many people don't realize. There have been times when I entered an AC and was wandering around for a good place to make a few phone calls and in the general areas realized I couldn't hear myself think. I then walked by the quiet zone and thought, "great, now I can have some peace and quiet for my call" and as soon as the thought entered my mind, realized where I was.

No, I promise I did not begin a call there, but it was funny how the first thought that came to mind was how that was the one place I would be able to hear the person I was talking to.

I have a big problem being on the phone in noisy areas; it's a curse. My husband, who works in an IT call center, laughs at me for this. For this reason, an AC isn't really an ideal place for me to be on the phone.
