Unequal mileage credit for inbound/outbound legs?

Just flew NRT-PVG round trip and received the following mileage credits:

JAL #796 PVG-NRT 1119 miles
JAL #5259 (China Eastern codeshare) NRT-PVG 783 miles

- a 336 mile discrepancy between legs with identival endpoints! How come?

Did you check www.aa.com on JAL's mileage credit by fare class?

JAL mileage earning on AA varies by fare class. That's my guess.

U are NOT suppose to get AA Mileage on a JL coded flight on MU metal.
So u got a bonus of 783 miles in error.

This has nothing to do with bonus miles zman - just the normal credit for miles flown. But 3Cforme hit upon the correct answer. I just realized I purchased a full-fare ticket in one direction and a discount fare in the other. JAL credits just 70% for the discount fare. Thanks for clearing up this minor issue.

Not bonus.
U are NOT suppose to get AA miles on MU metal unless the flight is purchased/coded with an AA flight number.
Looks like JL messed up.

Ah, I see what you are saying zman. But I don' think this is correct.

http://www.aa.com/i18n/AAdvantage/pa...anAirlines.jsp states that JAL codeshare flights ARE eligible for mileage accural.

Codeshare Flights
JAL codeshare flights operated by oneworld carriers and oneworld affiliates are eligible for mileage accrual.
JAL codeshare flights operated by any other carrier, in any fare class are also eligible for mileage accrual.

That is what it says, and that is what u got.

This is the only NON AA code shares, that I am aware, of that get u AA mileage on NON OW metal (except for AS).
