Q. What does lifetime AAdvantage Platinum and lifetime AAdvantage Gold status mean for me?
A. For the life of the AAdvantage Platinum and Gold programs, you will continue to enjoy the rewards and recognition of that elite level regardless of your annual elite-qualifying activity.
Q. Which miles will count for the AAdvantage Million Miler program?
A. "Miles earned toward Million Miler status are based on the distance of your flight for travel on American marketed flights or the base miles earned for travel on eligible partner marketed flights.” (Literally, “butt in seat” miles flown on qualifying revenue flight.)
Q. How can I track my progress toward reaching AAdvantage Million Miler status?
A. AAdvantage Million Miler activity is displayed in the members' AAdvantage account on aa.com separately from award miles so progress toward reaching this special designation can be easily tracked.

AAdvantage Million Miler Program as of Dec 2011 (master thd)
As promised, today I’m sharing with you the details of the new AAdvantage® Million MilerSM program.
Here’s how it’s going to work:
Starting December 1, 2011, AAdvantage base miles earned by flying on American Airlines, American Eagle® or the AmericanConnection® carrier or any AAdvantage program participating airline will count towards Million Miler status. Before you get nervous about just BIS miles counting, for those of you who have the new Citi Executive(SM) / AAdvantage® World Elite(TM) MasterCard® credit card, as a limited time offer, one AAdvantage mile for every dollar spent on eligible purchases using this card will count toward Million Miler status. Bonus miles and additional miles earned through special offers will not count. The Citi Executive(SM) / AAdvantage® World Elite(TM) MasterCard® credit card account must be open and in good standing by December 1, 2011, and miles must post to billing statements through December 2012. Realize that this makes American Airlines the only major US airline to provide a significant non-flight way to achieve Million Miler status. And one of the few to allow Million Miler miles accrual on participating airlines.
Here are the benefits at each Million Miler threshold:
● At 1,000,000 Million Miler miles, AAdvantage members will receive lifetime AAdvantage Gold® status and 35,000 AAdvantage bonus miles (which, as you know, can be exchanged for eight 500-mile upgrades if that’s what you prefer)
● At 2,000,000 Million Miler miles, AAdvantage members will receive lifetime AAdvantage Platinum® status and four one-way systemwide upgrades
● At each additional Million Miler mile mark, AAdvantage members will receive four additional one-way systemwide upgrades
You might be wondering about the AAdvantage miles you’ve earned so far. The good news is that when the Million Miler program launches on December 1, your starting Million Miler balance will include every AAdvantage mile you’ve ever earned since joining the program. And any Million Miler status or benefits you’ve earned so far remain as well.
When you log into your AAdvantage account on AA.com on and after December 1, you’ll see your Million Miler balance separate from your award miles, so you can easily track your progress toward these mileage milestones.
For more information you can visit http://bit.ly/aadvmillion or ask any questions you may have right here.
Thank you for your continued loyalty, and we look forward to seeing you on board soon.

Thank you, AmericanAirlines, for passing along this info. For the most part, it sounds like what we were expecting. I suspect it will be a relief to many on this forum to have a firm timetable for this upcoming program change, in particular since it is now a documented part of AAdvantage.
Now, those of us who are approaching a MM threshold have to be sure to transfer as many RDMs as possible into our accounts before Dec 1!

Here is something to consider for some of you who are chasing an illusive Million Miler status with new American:
My son crossed 1 Million with AA 5 years ago when he was 16. Obviously, no CC spending/bonuses contributed to that. Based on his total lifetime miles, I guess he has about 850K flown miles that would be counted under the new system. While in college, his paid flying almost stopped and over the last 12 months he only has 105 EQD. This means that he is at the very bottom of upgrade list. On last flight from RDU to CLT (complementary upgrades to everyone) he was #34 out of 36. He also did not get the new Million Miler tag or even his new Gold membership card. The new AA doesn't care...

As for whether lifetime status is worth anything, IMO LT Platinum status is useful for free baggage allotments, lounge access and a number of other things (including earning more Award Miles than one with a plain white AAdvantage card). Upgrades? They’re getting scarcer, given seat reductions, 12 month EQD spend influence, etc. But upgrades are hardly the sole Lifetime status benefit.

Sure, LT PLT offers some more. My point was that with recent AAdvantage devaluation and new protocols, LT Gold gives one very little benefits. One cannot even choose any Y seat without paying extra. Who checks the luggage anyway! However, while it is rather trivial to get AA Gold during a qualification year, nowadays 1 MM requires quite a commitment.

and many times they don't, like they did to us. LTP and LTG, no cards on requal for EXP and PP. However, you can pull a copy of the card on the app, and for us, I always make sure our status appears on the BP. We are of the persuasion we always have a backup paper BP, and have used it to very good advantage in LHR during ERROPS, and the Sakura First lounge in May.
