Is that big enough to qualify for the "big 6/9 announcement"?

Thanks for the news, MAH4546. As someone who is in the beginnings of expanding the reach of his work travel to Asia, I like hearing this. ^

A hearty "terima kasih banyak-banyak" for an early sharing of the news, MAH4546!

Check out their interactive route map here.

Announcement in Australian Business Traveller <link>

Malaysia Airlines is set to join the oneworld airline alliance, with the airline announcing its move this morning during the annual IATA airline industry conference in Singapore.

MAS CEO Tengku Azmil, who presented the news alongside Qantas boss Alan Joyce, says the airline's oneworld membership is expected to be completed within 12-18 months.

...

MAS' Enrich Silver tier is expected to match up with oneworld Ruby (Qantas Silver); Enrich Gold to oneworld Sapphire (Qantas Gold); and Enrich Platinum to oneworld Emerald (Qantas Platinum).

That'll also mean that Qantas Frequent Flyers will have access to Malaysia Airlines' lounges in Kuala Lumpur -- recently tipped as some of the best lounges in the world by guidebook writers Frommers.

A380 - coming

LAX-KUL and onward... very nice!

No. The supposed announcement - which I do believe to be credible - involves AA metal, not partnerships.

....Is it safe to say that this means that the Hainan Airlines to OW rumor is done for now?

We still need a chinese airline, plus Malaysia is a decent ways away from China.

Back on topic, I am surprised, I thought they were gearing up to join Skytem they do a lot of codesharing and earn and burn with AF and KLM

It is good to see OW adding some new members to the board, we need to keep up with the growth that *A and ST have been having the last few years

Excellent! Given OW's limited deep Asia network, I hope this will help. Definitely been pleased with MH before when I've flown them.

Nope. In fact, an AA-HU codeshare deal announcement might be very close.

Current metal or new 777-3ER metal?

Anyway, this one puzzles me.
ow has limited flights to KL right? In fact, QF doesn't even fly there, and do all the Kangaroo hops via SIN correct?
Hmmm...maybe ow will make KUL a regional hub, QF will ditch Singapore.
BA used to have a Kangaroo run too right, via ..??? Anyone?

That's great news. I have some trips scheduled on MH in Jan/Feb 2012. Is it too early to expect to earn AA miles? Can I expect to use the lounge in KL as OW Sapphire?
