Award travel and paid on same flight
 

Does anyone know if I already have a paid ticket on a flight and also an award ticket and I want to fly on the award ticket, can I check in for both and still get the miles on the paid ticket?

I know this goes against most peoples thoughts, but it kind of just turned out this way. I know I won't get the $ back for the flight, nor the miles, so I figure I would try to get the first class seat (award) and miles (coach).

Worth a try, right?

I would say it is highly doubtful that you could do both.

Even if you could get the two boarding passes ( one for the FC award and one for the paid coach) when you board you would probably only be ble to hand in one. ( If you just kept the paid boarding pass without handing it in there would be a headcount discrepancy and if no bags were checked in the coach seat would be annoated as a no show at least and the boarding pass would become invalid.

If you tried to claim after the event the discreapancy would also show up probably.

Can't you cancel your mile award or use your coach fare for another flight in the future ( maybe with a change fee?)
