Online Booking Bonus

I just got off the phone with Flightfund. A bulletin has just been sent to all CSRs stating that effective Jan 1,2003 the online rountrip booking bonus will be 500 miles. Lets see if this comes to pass.

No surprise since UAL and NW do that now. I still believe AA and CO are 1,000 mile online booking bonuses. I don't know about DL and US.

The bonus currently (and has been for a while) is 3,000 miles. Racked up a lot of miles by booking online this year.

Actually, the website states that the online bonus is for flights booked AND FLOWN before December 31, 2002. Bonus mileage is posted 7-10 days after the flight is taken.

So my assumption is if I booked/ticketed before 12/31, w/ travel from 1/1 to 1/6, that I get ZERO bonus miles....right? YUCK!

That's not my understanding. I was told by a CSR on the FF Platinum line that the bonus is going from 3000 to 500 points, effective Jan. 1. I asked her what about flights booked now, in 2002, before the new bonus is formally announced. She said that they're not going to penalize people who book now and that all on-line bookings made in 2002 that are for travel during the 500 point bonus period in 2003 (the end of which she did not know) would receive 500 points.

Somewhat less yuck . . . but still yuck!

Latest development is the posting today on the AWA web site, which announces the 500 mile bonus. The terms and conditions state:

"Purchase Ticket Through: For ticket purchases beginning January 1, 2003" (no end date)

This is contrary to what the agent told me on the phone. She said all bookings made in '02 for travel in '03 would qualify for the new bonus (albeit 2500 points less than in '02) I sent an e-mail to the customer liason people at AWA and asked them for clarification. I'll report when they respond.

I emailed CS to ask about flights booked in 2002 and taken in 2003. I was told that those flights would receive NO bonus miles. Pretty poor customer service!!!

Tell them that you called before booking online and were told that you would receive the bonus miles, and that that is why you went ahead and purchsaed the tickets.

You should be entitled to the miles as an "exception" purely on the misinformation/broken promise that led to your purchase.
