Widebody fleet cut

ANA today said that they expect to reduce their international wide body fleet with 25 to 30 planes.

This comes at the tail of posting record loses for the first half of the year.

I guess the 767 and 777-200ER are first in line. But I guess some 77W will also go. I wonder what will happen to the Honu A380....

Based on the info available on Wikipedia and Airfleets.net their long-haul fleet is much bigger than the 60 aircraft mentioned in the article. Or is the translation way off?

I think the article is focusing on the international fleet, but I don't know what the split between domestic and international fleet is. But certainly a fair amount of 787, 767, and 777 operate domestically.

全日空4空港の国際線大多数を休止羽田に集約へ

NHK is reporting that ANA will pretty much eliminate international flights out of KIX and NGO. Will eliminate 80% of international flights at NRT. ANA will consolidate international flights at HND.

As for ANA's international wide body fleet, as of January 2020:

A380: 2
777-300ER: 26
777-200ER: 0 (as of Jan 2020 all 777-200ER were converted to domestic configuration)
787-10: 2
787-9: 31
787-8: 25 (include 4 aircraft with Trent 1000-L engine assigned to MEX flight)
767-300ER: 10

Total of 96 international configured wide bodies. The article said ANA is planning to sell off about 30 aircraft.

Third A380 is already completed and was scheduled to hand over to ANA on April 2020 but ANA has postponed acceptance of third A380. It is interesting to see what will happen to A380. ANA took over A380 Skymark Airlines (BC) had on order after BC filed for reorganization bankruptcy. Many indicated that ANA did not want A380 but did it to gain financial interest in BC. Possible that A380 ended up very costly for ANA. But who knew 2020 will end up like this back then.

Last week Japanese media has reported ANA had secured loans from 5 major banks in Japan totaling 1 trillion yen (US$ 9.5 billion, 8 billion Euro) but ANA has made a statement that it has not reached such agreement. Then ANA has published next one year forecast and the forecast indicated that 2021 Q3 will be 500 million yen (US$ 4.8 million, 4 million Euro) in red.

I wonder if ANA can afford to keep 3 A380. ANA has not took delivery of third A380 but already way passed April 2020 delivery date, I am sure ANA will own very large penalty to Airbus (some are saying almost not much different than the cost of aircraft itself) if ANA does not take third A380.

P.S.
The article also indicates when international demand come back HND will be given priority. Sounds like it is implying that NRT will not see increase in international flight unless HND reaches full capacity.
