fyi, OP has mentioned they resolved it by changing dates.

I believe airlines actually make more money from Economy than any other classes. On top of that, I rarely see a flight with a full PE or business cabin that doesn't have a full Economy cabin as well. But a full Econ cabin doesn't guarantee a full PE/Biz cabin. So, my guess would be a "no". Waitlist of Economy wouldn't be easier to clear, in fact, I bet that it actually would be more difficult to clear.
