ANA sales

I start looking every day starting in six months out. Found a $500. decrease in business class seat 5 /12 months out. I think there is no "one best time"- when you see a lower price grab it that day and then stop looking.

Almost always, ex-abroad (destination Japan). Check out the various ANA global websites.
What route are you looking at?

The alert function on Google Flights is helpful for monitoring price dips.

Are you looking for economy class or business class? Must you fly ANA?
Air China has SIN at 580 USD, ANA at 770 USD return in economy for March travel. As cheap as it will get. (google flights link)

Singapore airlines has been having the premium economy sale for quite a while now. (from LAX/SFO/JFK to south east asia). books into R class and earns 100% on ANA.

the ends justify the means?
Seems you barely fly them......just wondering why you aim to keep ANA status?

I fly *A airlines (SQ, BR, UA and NH ) and decided that ANA is where I would deposit my miles. When I moved out of AA, I was deciding between JL or NH and the latter seemed more appealing. Have been flying NH for just a year and liking it.

Are you aiming for Diamond?
If you are already a Diamond this year, try getting the superflyers card and you will be semipermanently star alliance gold without ever flying ANA again.

Going for Diamond this year. Unfortunately, I am not residing in Japan. It would be nice to have the superflyers card.

ANA is almost always more expensive than Air China or China Eastern, even under heavy discount. Air China is also a member of star alliance.

I was not impressed flying with China Southern two years back and vow never fly with any Chinese airlines again. I was then a Skyteam Elite Plus and that airline would not even allow me to pre-select my seat when I flew coach. And the flight or the lounge wasn't that great.

I have no experience with Air China ...but found their First Class lounge in Beijing was rather bad.

I like ANA so far ...my only beef is with Star Alliance; the inconsistency in benefits from the different airlines, eg. Air Canada won't give me priority access to clear security in YYZ while I get that in LHR. And I don't get advance seat selection. SQ sends alliance pax to use another lounge. I am not used to this as with One World, such elementary services are available across all airlines in the alliance.
