This often happens to own lounge.
For contract lounge, more straight on this. As they may not able to get the airlines to pay for the access.

Works all the time for partnered lounges that aren't ANA/JL.

Most of the times departing in J, it's because it's not the airlines hub. Than connecting at the hub on F.

I've never been denied but that's because I've never ran into this with any airline in Japan.

Hint, 100% at HKG

0% for me in HKG, and more than 5 times !

UA/TG/SQ all three
First scenario OZ C HKG-ICN > OZ F ICN-ORD DENIED !
Second scenario NH C HKG-NRT > NH F NRT-ORD DENIED !
Third scenario TG C HKG-BKK > TG F BKK-NRT DENIED !
Fourth scenario BR C HKG-TPE > BR C TPE-NRT > LH F NRT-FRA DENIED !

Only times it worked is you are departing or arriving and connecting to that same airline in F, like UA C ORD-IAD > UA F IAD-FRA, able to use UA IFL in ORD, or LH F DTW-FRA > NH F FRA-NRT, able to use LH FCL in FRA

Never tried TG. Usually my connections are same day but last time after the renovation of UA they let me in even though J connecting into F was the next day. Try doing what I suggested and see how it goes.
^NH HKG-NRT(J) , NRT-IAH (F)

Personal experience in the past few years:
*A F except NH > NH NRT/HND F (x) C (o) Lounge > connecting any *A C or Y with *A Gold
NH F > NH NRT/HND F (x) C (o) Lounge > connecting other *A C, or Y with *A Gold
NH F > NH NRT/HND F (o) C (o) Lounge > connecting NH C. Y class may allow you use C Lounge but not F for sure

I didnt dig up old threads to see the exact date, but i did dig up my past flights, as i sure remembered the very first time i got denied F lounge access while not departing F but connecting in F, it was February 2009. So the rule could have been started sometime in 2008 or January 2009.

I didn't have my F ticket since the connecting flight was more than 24 hours later.

SQ Denied me at HKG

HKG-NRT(J) (30 hrs later) NRT-IAH (F)

over 24hr is a stopover, not a transit.

Many thanks,
