one way redemption on ANA

Was just trying to redeem Jakarta-Narita-San Jose on ANA business for next July. Just realized that I could not complete the booking unless I was doing a roundtrip?

I checked earlier and was able to redeem my SQ miles for this exact ANA itinerary for my husband and 2 kids.

Please help! This is my first time using ANA booking system.

Thanks.

They require two sectors or a roundtrip flight for the online redemption system.

One-way award flights are not available on ANA international flights. Stopovers are allowed, up to three on international awards. When departing from overseas, only one stopover is permitted in Japan, when departing from Japan, stopovers in Japan are not allowed.

Open jaws are allowed as long as the first flight departure city and the last flight arrival city are within the same country.

For a one-way redemption, unless you have a lot of miles with NH already, I would strongly recommend making a booking through Lifemiles or another FFP rather than AMC. It will cost 65,000 miles per person, and you will save a lot of money on fuel surcharges (Lifemiles will not pass them on, while AMC will).

Hmm, I've already transferred 70k miles from Amex to ANA since it never didnt even cross my mind I would not be able to redeem 1 way.

I can redeem through SQ but then the 70k miles already stuck in ANA is kinda wasted.

Actually would this solve the problem:
I book a roundtrip ticket using ANA miles Jakarta-Narita-Jakarta.
Then I book anouther ticket using my SQ miles Narita-San Jose, JFK-Narita.

You could book...

CGK-NRT-SJC

open jaw it...

SIN-CGK

and it will make a roundtrip (just don't fly SIN-CGK)

This only works if the ground segment is shorter than the combined distance of the actual flown segments, IIRC.

Also, this would prevent the OP from using a NH award, which can be cheaper.

Got asked for some help from my brother-in-law. Not travelling until 2016 but wants a strategy so he can gather miles. Taking a cruise from Tokyo to San Francisco. Realized when I started that ANA does not allow one-way but that they do allow open jaws. Would it be legal to book JFK to NRT ---OPEN JAW---SFO to JFK?

Thanks for the feedback

one way redemption on ANA

I checked your open-jaw flights on the advanced search and it gives an error. I suspect that ANAs home airports have to be involved on each leg, or each portion of the flight must be international. The SFO to JFk portion is domestic.

You previously flew ANA one way, and you also want to fly ANA one way.
You previously used SQ miles for a one-way successfully.
You cannot use ANA miles for a one-way.
If you MUST use ANA miles, you either book a return or open-jaw to/from within the same region.
OR, use other miles!!
