AZ: linate > malpensa transfer

Hey guys, a question; It's my first time on alitalia, and Iíve booked an itinerary with AZ and after completing the booking I discovered that Iím flying in on Milan Linate and after a three hour layover my next flight leaves from Malpensa. I'm assuming it's do-able, but now the question, what's the fastest way to transfer between these airports...and how long does it take? What about carry-on luggage? thx for your help

Minimum legal connection for an inter-airport connection is 3 hours 15 minutes.

There are 2 bus companies that offer scheduled service between the 2 airports:

Malpensa Shuttle and Caronte

More info here

thx for your reply, i just discovered the lay-over is 3,5 hours, so it's possible, even if i have carry-on luggage? btw is it possible to check in for both flights when checking in for the first segment?

If the whole itinerary is AZ you should be able to check in for all legs and get boarding passes at your initial departure point. I have run into a few cases at smaller airports where the GA's didn't fully understand the AZ computer system and didn't know how to print the BP's.

If one leg is codeshare and you start at an airport where AZ doesn't have a large presence, there is a good chance they won't be able to issue all the BP's.

Hi there!
I think the solution that Mr. Roboto suggested is the most convenient.

Another way would be to grab a shuttle to the yellow metro station at San Donato than get the metro and connect in Duomo ti get on the red line to Cadorna and there you can jump on the Malpensa Express train.

If I were in your feet I would anyway check if it's any later flight to your final destination leaving from MXP.
I don't know which route goes the bus, but Milano freeway can get very busy at certain peak times.
the two airports are 50 miles far from each other and I guess it would take around one hour with no traffic.
If you have a three hour connection time, I think you are really tight.
Than it depends if you're checking baggages or just travelling with a carry-on.

Good luck

Well, Iím arriving at 10:15 AM at LIN and my connecting flight is departing at 13:45 PM from MXP to LIS. Hopefully there won't be any traffic-congestions on the freeway. And I was planning on checking baggages....so probably only carry-on right?

edited to add: thx for your help guys !!

That's a though question.
Where are you glying LN from?
I think you won't be able to check baggage from LIN to MXP, but you have to move them by yourself.
Hope anyway, I'm wrong

It seems that going in the other direction, from MXP to LIN, there is no bus connection after 18h20 (6h20pm). My plan involves flying into MXP, then leaving from LIN the next morning. So I was going to take some transport to LIN and spend the night there.

Well Malpensa isn't a hub anymore.

There should still be the train into Milan and from there the bus to Linate.

And there's a decent hotel at MXP (Sheraton) and if you're going to LIN you'd probably get a hotel in Milan anyway (it's only 15-20 minutes from central Milan to LIN).
