Did Alitalia shaft me?
Last year I booked a ticket for my parents to fly in August 2021. Due to the ongoing pandemic, I wanted it rebooked for next year. The telephone agent said that they would make a note in hte reservation so when the flight was available (so from next week or so as you can only book 12 months in advance or so) they would pencil that new date in. Fair enough but now Alitalia is gone. Can I still get that new date or did I lose out? If Aliitalia does not reinstate the ticket for the new date, can I do a chargeback on my Amex?

Alitalia does not exist anymore. They will not reinstate your ticket for tomorrow or next year. Look at their website for the procedures to follow to get reimbursed.
