Alitalia or Qatar airways

Hi all, I am looking to book Lhr to male in business class and have identified either Alitalia or Qatar airways.

qatar airways would cost an extra £1,000 for two people is it worth the extra cost over Alitalia? It would be a Qatar classic ticket if that helps.

For what date? The current Alitalia is to cease operations on Oct. 14; even if they quote fares for later dates, you can't count on the ticket being honored by the new airline, even if they operate that route.

You’re wasting some money if you pay 1k extra. You can im sure get cheaper Qatar tickets starting in Rome and taking an economy flight from London.

just one important point, you are only allowed to Transit through Italian airports.

Qatar don’t fly direct from time so it would mean two changes, we would be flying with a 10 month old so would prefer only one change ideally. That’s one goood thing about Alitalia flights is that it’s direct from Rome overnight so the baby will sleep for most of it

They officially go bankrupt and cease to exist. ITA will be a new company, but Brussels mandates there is no connection between these 2 airlines. Your tickets will be invalidated and you will have to deal with Italian government to get the money back. As far as I know ITA is not planning to fly to MLE. There is a separate thread on this forum - why not to browse or use search function?

PS. And if your QR fare is an unbundled brand you will have no lounge access and no advance seat selection (unless OW elite) - verify before booking...
