Overnight baggage connection at FCO?

Evening all. I知 travelling later this month from LHR >> FCO >> GRU.

I値l be arriving in the evening of day 1 and departing next morning on the day flight to GRU, both on AZ, both on a single booking.

AZ advise me I can through-check my hold baggage all the way to GRU, which suits me fine, my carry-on will do for the overnight in Rome.

My question is very simple - I know things can go awry with long baggage connections anywhere, moreso overnight.

Should I short-check the bag to FCO only or am I worrying overmuch?

Can things go wrong? Yes, they can.
Will things go wrong? No way of knowing.
Should you do it? Only you can decide based on a risk whose probability is rather low.
Would I do it? Yes, but I'm not you.

FCO service has improved a lot on last years.

After that, if I was you, I would take my luggage and check in again the day after.

This.

I would also ensure that I have my luggage during the overnight stop in FCO.

I have an overnight in FCO on an AZ ticket coming up in 2 weeks' time, and I will be short checking the back to FCO and keeping it overnight.
