Are all miles going to expire on Jan 2018?

Hello,
I have about 30000 MilleMiglia Alitalia miles.

The website states that:
"
MILES EARNED IN THE 2013-2017 EDITION

The current edition of the MilleMiglia Program has been extended to 31 December 2017. Therefore you can continue to earn miles until that date and spend miles for awards by January 31, 2018.
"

Does this mean that if I don't spend my miles by January 2018, I am going to lose them?

Thanks.

Not necessarily.

The current programme has already been extended several times. Given that Alitalia's future looks secure until April 2018, it is almost certain that the programme will be extended again.

That said - it is rarely a good idea to leave mileage balances festering - in ANY programme - for too long. You would be advised to spend the miles ASAP if you can find a good use for them, rather than letting them lie there.

Ive just got an email from MM. Miles are valid until March 31st 2018.

It also says that if one takes 4 AZ flights between January 1st and march 1st 2018 one can keep up to 100% of its current mileage balance for the new program starting April 1st.

Not sure if it's related but as i'm trying to burn 100k miles I can find longhaul reaward tickets availability even in business where few weeks ago no award tickets were available on AZ in any class.

Another fantastic front-page FT headline

(It's pretty drastic if you have to die to save your miles!)

Keeping miles 'alive' after March 31, 2018

So, I am looking to keep my miles 'alive' after March 31, 2018.

I have a flight in January on China Southern - two segment. Would that count as two flights or one flight?

Thanks.

Inclusive of a picture which goes back to Spandau Ballet’s first album.

That said, we’ll see how things develop with Flying Blue next Monday, it might be time to consider MilleMiglia once again

I've just booked 4 flights in February, so at least my miles won't expire. Not that I have many anyway!

That's half the battle. You will actually have to fly them

And are you sure that booking them now is within the terms of the offer?

I know I am being possibly over-pedantic here, but the English text could be interpreted that they must also be booked during the stated period:

The new edition of the MilleMiglia Program will also include a special initiative for our most loyal members: purchase and take at least 4 one way flights between 1 January and 31 March 2018 and carry over into the new edition up to 100% of the remaining miles at 1 April 2018.

(I am waiting for further news of the changes to determine whether to just burn the miles I have left, rather than attempting to "save" them with a booking next year if the long-term future of the programme looks bright)
