Your status makes no difference, however you should be able to use your UK passport for the electronic passport gates so it should be a pretty smooth experience, assuming A3 arrives on time.

Details are: arrive FCO from ATH at 10:10, and depart FCO for LHR at 11:45. I assume A3 arrives at T1 and I know BA departs T3 (a little walk will be involved).

While in normal circumstances this would be a relatively comfortable DIY connection, it is however important to bear in mind that a potential arrival to a remote stand plus bus transfer could add significant stress to your transit in case your ATH flight is late (a delay of ~40+ minutes could practically compromise your connection, even though you'll probably be reassured by the fact that A3650 has a good on-time record).

The A3 flight arrives at the D gates (T3); I've taken it tens of times, it's usually on time or, to be precise, ~10-15 minutes early. So, with a 10 minutes walk to the T3 immigration checkpoint and no security control, you'll even have time for a quick lounge visit. By the way, if your passport is of the kind with the chip, you can use the automatic gates at immigration, saving additional time.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I was hoping that would be the case.

Hello all, I have this AZ itinerary on 1 ticket.

AZ1492 VRN-FCO (lands in T1)
AZ610 FCO-JFK (leaves from T3)

There is 1.35h in between (from landing and departure) and I'm always afraid about FCO.

I have a EU passport. Will I have to go through security again once in FCO? I'm ST Elite Plus (I hope this helps in FCO?). Must I take a train?

Furthermore... I have terrible luggage experiences in Italy (lost + delayed). What is your impression considering the short connection?

Thanks a lot!!

No security check in-between, and 1:35 is more than plenty, provided your flight from VRN arrives on time (gate-to-gate should be no more than 30 minutes). As for your luggage, again, stop worrying, it will mosr probably make it.

Adding to the usual helpful piece of information from our KLouis -

If your VRN flight is delayed and therefore putting your connection to JFK at risk, you will most likely find a member of AZ ground crew waiting for you at the main arrival hall in T1 (that's where the bus will drop you off), from where you (and other connecting passengers, if any) will be escorted to your new gate.

I have the following itinerary--
AZ0611 JFK -> FCO (12:40 arrival)
AZ1677 FCO -> FLR (14:10 departure)
Total layover is 1HR30M.

I assume I'll have go through immigration/security at FCO since that's my entry point in EU. I have no idea what terminals I'll be arriving at/departing from. I hope 1hr30m is enough time? Thanks in advance.

Passports plus security indeed and you should be through in less than 30 minutes at that time, you will be arriving at T3 and onwards to FLR from T1, you should also have enough time to take a shower and get some decent lunch at the former Borromini lounge (pier D), if you have any Sky Team status or in case you'll be sitting at the front, needless to say.

Enjoy

Thank you! I'll be flying into FCO on J, but Y on the hopper to FLR, and no status. I'll be sure to check out the lounge out my way out of FCO on the return leg!

Are these separate reservations/tickets then? That does make things a bit riskier. 90 min transfer between two separate tickets is, for me at least, a no-go for sure.

They are on the same reservation. I booked an award ticket from JFK to FLR, and it was a mixed cabin itinerary with main leg in J and second leg in Y.

If I had checked luggage, what are the chances that it won't make it onto the FCO -> FLR leg? I'm thinking pretty high given the 1.5hr window, but maybe I'm just too pessimistic?

I had countless connections at FCO and much shorter than that, with my luggage always appearing on the carousel at final destination. It used to be bad in the past, especially during peak months, but there's no doubt that operations at FCO have improved significantly in the last 5 years-plus.

Thanks! I think I'll take a chance then!
