Is that enough time? Will I have to change terminals? Arrival is on a weekday in June.

Thank you so much in advance
Easy with hand-baggage and with no major delays, particularly risky if you'll be travelling with checked luggage (P.S.: you will indeed have to change terminal).

This should be more than enough if you have not checked any luggage. If you do check, you'll have to add some time to retrieve it, re-checking it and going again through security. Although you should be able to make it (if you arrive on time), statistically, you may have to run...

LAX-FCO-ATH - is this connection sane?

Hi all, wondering if this connection is more likely than not to be OK (same ticket/PNR, flying in J).

LAX-FCO, 1615-1310(+1)
FCO-ATH, 1450-1745

On paper it would seem 1hr40 is ample even given the passport control and changing terminals, but the LAX flight seems to arrive late pretty frequently.

If I do miss the connection, can I ask to be rebooked on the next nonstop to Athens on any airline (in this case, Aegean) or would I have to hope for space on the next Alitalia flight? Not as familiar with EU rules on this as I ought to be.

Appreciate any tips. "Don't wait for a gate agent to escort you over" seems to be a good one.

Docking at the gate any time before 2PM would give you enough time to get to Terminal 1 and board your Athens flight. Should the worst comes to the worst, I'm afraid it is very unlikely that Alitalia will re-accommodate you on Aegean, they are renownedly inflexible in that respect. As others have previously mentioned, do not wait for a transfer agent (or whatever they call them), just head straight to passports and follow the signs for B/C, it is a relatively painless transfer these days.

Hi all,

Thanks to everyone for contributing to such a forum. Such a great resource.

I'm flying from Air Transat Toronto YYZ > FCO. Connection is 1h30m for a domestic flight to Sicily with Alitalia. These are two separate itineraries, that is, I'd have to pick up checked baggage, and re-check them. Is this doable? How much time should I plan for?

TIA

Hi and welcome to FlyerTalk, Cakechef - I hope we'll see more of you here.

In answer to your question: risky, very risky, mostly considering that it could take up to 45 minutes for your bag to appear on the belt meaning that even with a perfectly on-time arrival from Toronto you would still be rushing to get out, re-check luggage and head back to security when your Alitalia flight would already be boarding. Up to you but it is important to consider the risk element in the above arrangements.

+1 for AlicorporateUK's answer.

During the fascist era, the regime would have considered such a short connection time as being on line with the party's policy: vivere pericolosamente!. I would add, very, very pericolosamente...

I'll be returning from vacation on a sunday in october, from dubrovnik (croatia air terminal 3), connecting to DTW on delta (terminal 5 it appears). Arriving at 10:30am, delta leaves at 11:15..so 45 minutes..

should I plan on getting an extra vacation day in rome? although it looks like if I missed it, they might be able to get me on a jfk or atl flight an hour later if they hustle and there is a seat..

45min is the MCT in FCO for Intl to Intl connections. If both flights were issued on the same ticket, you're covered if there's a misconnection.

Should you miss your connection, its by 99% sure that you WON'T re rebooked to a flight leavinh 1h later than your original. You'll be in Italy and clocks run different...

Is this all under 1 PNR? If not, I would indeed consider staying in Rome and take an extra day holiday. If instead you booked a single itinerary through DL (or AZ), then 45 minutes would still be a bit tight but at least you'd get a seat on one of the JFK services out of FCO or they could even re-route you via AMS/CDG/LHR (AZ+DL).

Hi All,

Long time reader, first time poster. Will be flying through FCO later this year and appreciate any insights on what has now become a tighter connection due to a schedule adjustment:

DEL-FCO, ARR: 08:40
FCO-BOS, DEP: 10:10

Layover time is 90 mins and gate information is not yet available as DEL-FCO is a new route opening later this year. This is all on 1 PNR so I won't have to worry about luggage or immigration but should 90 mins be okay, and are there any extra security checks for flights to US that can slow us down?

Appreciate your thoughts or tips. Thanks.

Yep, same PNR, and I wouldn't mind missing it to get a day in rome. And my credit card has decent enough trip delay insurance so hotel/food etc would be covered..Any tips, besides sit at the back of my incoming flight, to uhh, make it hard to make the connection?

A rainy day in Rome could have a significant impact on operations

You should be absolutely fine even with a delayed arrival (up to 50 minutes) from DEL, mostly given that the BOS service will most likely depart from the very same concourse.
