Hotel in Juneau
 

I normally stay at Hilton and Sheraton family properties, but I do not see any in the downtown area. Any suggestions? I like the idea of staying in a place that is local-only, but I will need high speed internet at a minimum.

they have wireless internet- but all internet can be problematic here- just learn to live with it- part of being in "the last frontier"-

Have not been in rooms for many years- can not tell you the quality there-

It is within walking distance to all downtown Juneau areas- and if you get a front of building room should have nice views of the channel.

Would recommend either the Pearson's Pond (www.pearsonspond.com) or Alaska's Capital Inn B&Bs. My folks stayed at the Goldbelt and found it to be perfectly fine. You might also check out the Driftwood Lodge (www.driftwoodalaska.com)- they will pick you up from the airport and will loan you bikes.

Have heard good things about Extended Stay America (formerly Aspen) right next to the airport.

Made a reservation for Pearson's Pond...great mix of local architecture and modern convenience.

Looks like they recommend a car rental, but I imagine the traffic is not too bad.

I really needed a good laugh this morning. Traffic in Juneau? Due to the few miles of roads, your rental car won't have high mileage when you turn it in.

Keep your eyes looking for gold nuggets. Some people do find one.

Always been happy with the Prospector (ask them for their "suite").

Hahahahaha! Naw, not too bad. Cracks me up the business travelers at the airport asking the clerk over and over for every detail how to get to down town.

Gas is about $3.27/gal in JNU right now, but don't worry, for a few day stay it will probably only cost you a couple dollars to fill it.

I LOVE JNU, when are you going? Hopefully not soon because right now it is kind of stinky with all the spawning salmon. There is a good reason for all that rain!

Internet service at the Goldbelt is very spotty and you need to be near the center of the building to get wireless. Pearson's Pond sounds nice.

It will be my first time in Juneau for business and am looking for the best hotel in downtown JNU. Two that I have heard of include Goldbelt Hotel the Westmark Baronof? Which is nicer? More centrally located? Thank you in advance.

The Baronof is haunted. I'm not kidding! I stayed there once and will never do so again.

Yes, it has a central location but parts are very old.

Seek elsewhere!

Juneau is lacking in nice hotels. Parts of the Baranof look like it hasn't been cleaned since the Hammond administration.

When I'm in Juneau, I always just stay out by the airport and use a rental car to get into downtown. With the big parking garage in downtown parking is never a huge issue.

There's a couple of decent Best Western's, as well as the Extended Stay, all by the airport. If you're dead-set on staying in downtown, I'd either go the B&B route or just settle for paying a lot of money for a rather mediocre room at a place like the Baranof.

The Ramada downtown is clean and the people are friendly. If something is wrong, they try to fix it quickly. There is no a/c except for the window.

There is also a Hiton and Sheraton downtown, I think there is even a Marriott.

You must be confusing Juneau with Anchorage.

Hilton, Sheraton, and Ramada are all non-existent in Juneau.

I'd pick the Goldbelt over the Baranof. Better views, newer rooms, etc.

As it turns out we were placed at the Baranof and I was very happy with the rooms and the service and location. The restaurant is pretty good too. I say all this based upon a relative comparison of other options in Juneau. I would definetly stay there again.
