alaskan cruise

My husband & I are going on an alaskan cruise this August. This is our
first cruise and I have no idea how to dress. Are blue jeans okay? The
only thing our travel agent told us was to dress in layers....It is a Holland
America cruise..any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes, blue-jeans are fine. I went on an RCC cruise, and the only time "casualwear" wasnt allowed was at dinner, although people did wear shorts, and jeans, but didnt get "told off" I believe RCC and Holland America have similar dress codes

Cheers

Leaving Saturday on my 3rd Alaska Cruise. Holland America will draw an older crowd than most other cruise lines. Therefore, on board they will dress up more. On casual nights, the dress will be country club casual. 1 informal night is sport coat and tie. Formal nights are suit or tux. Daytime and on shore jeans are fine. Alaska is really casual. Just remember, it may rain. And jeans get heavy when wet and dry slowly.

Alaska is very casual, around Anchorage we know who the tourists are because they're dressed up so nice. :) On board the cruise I wouldn't worry too much about appearances, when we went on a couple years ago we just dressed however was comfortable and everyone was gracious and welcoming. It was a Royal Caribbean so I don't know if that would make a difference or not. You'll have a great time, as others have said, be prepared for rain!
