brooks falls - worth it and best access?
 

am visiting alaska from england with wife and teen son July 3rd-8th. obviously seeing the bears on the brooks falls salmon run is a great experience but is it worth $1500+ on a fairly tight family budget? if it is worth it I seem to have 2 lo-cost options:

self-booked 2 day trip, taking alaska to king salmon, katmai air to brooks, camping there - around $450 pp

day trip from homer - $550 pp

any thoughts on these?

other planned activities I would welcome advice on:

camping and kayaking at miller's landing, nr seward

all-day katmai fjords trip to northwestern fjord

If it's readily available, Brooks Falls is well worth the time. It will give you what could possibly be a once in a lifetime experience. ^
