Fairbanks Restaurant

We are visiting Fairbanks in the winter, and found a good restaurant near the Springhill Suites by Marriott downtown. It’s a Moldovan restaurant right across the street called Soba, with a good variety of dishes and good wines from Moldova as well (reasonably priced). The restaurant in the hotel was good too (Lavelle‘s). We were impressed that a small city like Fairbanks has such nice restaurants.

Great to hear. Anything you'd recommend ordering?

second that - a nice place with Moldovan/Ukranian/Russian type of dishes. Not cheap (but not expensive by FAI standards) with good sized portions

A number of items looked appealing. We had a salad with cubed beets and potatoes, and entrees of lamb sausage/cabbage salad/french fries, and the chicken mushroom schnitzel. The entrees also came with a cup of soup. For dessert, we had the sour cherry crepes. We ordered a bottle of the most expensive wine on the list, about $56, which was a red blend (Negru de Purcari).

In Lavelle's, ask about Wine Wednesdays (tastings/specials of wine one day of the week). Also, check their bar menu versus the dining room menu as well as dinner (food) specials. It may be easier to get a table in the bar area, but you can order from the full dinner menu there if you wish.

Thanks! Those sour cherry crepes sound delicious.
