Tourist ideas for Anchorage, AK Business Trip?

I have to go to Anchorage next week. I have nights free M-T, leave at like 1am on Friday morning.

As the sun doesn't set there until about 11pm - I figure I have some good time after the workday is done to do some activities.

I will be staying/working with about 10 minutes of the airport - but will have a car to hit some outside spots.

Any recommendations of places I should check out?

Try the Sourdough Mining Company if you are looking for a low-key meal - it's a bit campy, but the food is good, there is a giant chocolate factory/gift shop across the street, and there is live entertainment and beautiful nature-y stuff outside. We make it a point to visit every time we travel through Anchorage (although we usually stay in Kenai when we are in Alaska).

thanks...yeah I've never been to AK before - so any information that one can share about how things operate out of the ordinary in a place with 19 hour days. Like, are most places open until pretty late? Do tourist attractions tend to run very late since they can? etc...

I'm less concerned about finding good eats (though recommendation are accepted) then I am finding interesting things to see/do that don't require excessive planning or time because of my situation.

As this query is specific to one destination, we'll move this to the more appropriate Alaska destination forum. Thanks! :) /JY1024, TravelBuzz co-moderator

Lots of things, for example drive down Turnagain Arm (one of the most beautiful roads in the US) around 45 min. to Girdwood, and take the aerial tram at Alyeska up to the top of the ski runs. Then have dinner at the Double Musky or some other place in Girdwood. Spectacular evening.

Or take an evening flightseeing trip on floats with Rust's out of Lake Hood. http://www.flyrusts.com/

Have a burger next to the creek at the Arctic Roadrunner on Old Seward Hwy and look for salmon in the water.

Or go get a line wet fishing for Silvers in Ship Creek right in downtown Anchorage.

Get a bike and do the Tony Knowles bike trail; watch out for other riders and for moose.

Lots of things.
