Well, there are several nice hotels in anchorage. Alaska is really not the place to go hoteling, it us more for doing outdoors activities. That is probably why it was recently voted. Worst dressed state. The best hotel in Anchorage is probably the Captain Cook

Here are a few hotels that A&K uses:

I agree about Captain Cook. Also nice is the relatively new Marriott in Anchorage. The Alyeska in Girdwood (about an hour South of Anchorage) is very nice.

Thinking outside of the box, there are a few very nice fishing lodges. One that comes to mind is Dove Island Lodge in Sitka. The accomodations are great, but the fishing is average, and it might be fairly pricey if you just want to stay there rather than fish. But it might be worth checking out.

What is it that you want to do up here and when are you thinking of traveling? There are some really nice hotels in and around Anchorage as well as other places. I would agree with the A&K list but there are quite a few others.

My boyfriend and I stayed a night on Fox Island at the Wilderness Lodge - Cabins were quite nice (recently renovated) and the food was 5 star. They have a separate area for the overnight guests from the day guests and dinner was 4 course with appetizers. They only have 8 cabins and when we stayed there was only one other couple.

Also spent two nights at Alyeska and one at the Princess Lodge in Cooper Landing. Both nice but Fox Island was our favorite. (very romantic but may not be good for kids)
