When are you going? I assume before mid September if you are mentioning train.

You can check PJ's Taxi in Seward. I think the price is $300+ one way. They will pick you up in Anchorage and drop you off anywhere in Seward. Talk with Renee.

There is also a bus service that might be of interest.

Are you just going one way to catch a cruise in Seward? Seward is definitely worth spending some time in. With the train, you can arrive in Seward about 11am and take a 6 hour Kenai Fjords tour. Well worth it - you get closer to marine wildlife and glaciers than you would on your cruise ship. Just a thought.

You are welcome. If you end up contacting Renee, tell her "FTI" mentioned her to you. I met her once when I was in Seward. Very knowledgeable woman, having lived in AK quite a while.

Hertz has an office in Seward. I couldn't find any one-way availability online, but try calling Hertz in Anchorage (907-243-4118 x0 for the airport or 907-562-4595 for Hertz downtown) and asking about one-way availability. Note that rates drop significantly after about September 1.

The train is very scenic and worth riding. $75pp is not a bad price; GoldStar is a nice upgrade, but regular coach is quite comfortable, especially if you snag a seat in one of the historic UP dome cars.

If your hotel is downtown, it's a short walk (maybe 10 minutes max, unless you're at the Sheraton) to the train depot or a correspondingly cheap cab ride (short and cheap enough the cabbie might roll his eyes at you for wasting his time ;)). If you are staying nearer to the airport, check with your hotel and see if their airport shuttle will also take you to the train depot--many do. During the summer months, I know there's a free downtown shuttle bus that circulates around downtown and the train depot, but I couldn't find details on it. The ARR staff may know more about that and if it can get you from your hotel to the depot.

Otherwise, some other options are listed at http://alaska.org/alaska-transportation.htm. Specifically, it looks like http://alaska.org/gettingaround/alas...ection-bus.htm might be able to do it for as low as $55 per person (direct link: http://www.alaskacoach.com/schedule.html#rates), and http://alaska.org/gettingaround/seward-bus-lines.htm might be worth calling, too. Other options may be available by digging around on those links.

I remember seeing some coupon inserts in 2011 Northern Lights coupon book provide 2 for 1 transportation service between Anc and Seward. You can try find out.
