Hopping around the PNW on full flights

About 3 weeks ago I booked my ticket home to BOI for Christmas. At the time the cheapest option was going SEA-SFO-BOI on 12/23 on UA with a return of BOI-GEG-SEA-PDX on 12/27 on AS. This itinerary was booked on Orbitz.

Looking at loads on ExpertFlyer no more seats are being sold on GEG-SEA and SEA-PDX on my return trip. Direct PDX-BOI flights are showing at minimum 7 seats available for sale.

Would AS rather have me take a direct flight that is not oversold rather than jump around the Pacific NW on 3 flights (2 sold out)?

Just curious if anyone had any thoughts on this subject.

Well, I'd assume that AS would rather have a flexible passenger on the empty flight... but I am not sure how it is relevant? Are you trying to switch?

Until day of departure, I wouldn't even ask. When you arrive for the first flight, if there are any irregular ops anywhere en route, ask to be switched. Even if there aren't any, ask them if they can change it. The flight you may really want could end up booked full/oversold by the day of travel.

I guess I'm going to hope that those flights continue to be oversold and they need volunteers. I'll volunteer and they'll put me on a better (more direct) flight. I think that is the win win for me. :)
