Alaska Airlines Adds Mileage Transfer Option

http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/060530/sftu070.html?.v=55

SEATTLE, May 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan today announced a new program that allows members to transfer miles from one account to another, making miles easier to use and free travel faster to earn.

Alaska's new mileage transfer program gives Mileage Plan members the option to transfer up to 100,000 miles per year from one Mileage Plan account to another. Customers can use their miles to redeem travel on Alaska Airlines, as well as its sister carrier, Horizon Air, and more than a dozen worldwide airline partners. Miles can be transferred in increments of 1,000 up to 30,000 miles per transaction.

"We constantly look for ways to make the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan more valuable to our members by making miles easier to earn and redeem," said Rick Rasmussen, Alaska's director of loyalty marketing. "Now Mileage Plan members can share miles with family and friends with the simple click of a mouse. For instance, if parents want to fly their college student home for a visit but don't have enough miles individually, they can combine their miles to qualify for a free ticket."

The mileage transfer service is available at the airline's Web site, alaskaair.com. Customers transferring miles will pay a $25 fee per transaction and will be charged one cent per mile transferred.

In addition to redeeming miles for personal travel, Mileage Plan members continue to have the option to donate miles through Alaska Airlines' Charity Miles program, which includes the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Angel Flight West, The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Alaska Shriners, Hero Miles and others. Details about the Charity Miles program are available at alaskaair.com.
