Elimination of Change/Cancellation Penalties for July
I received the following memo from my travel agent -
Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air waive change fees for July Assisting our travel professional partners, Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air will waive all customer change fees and allow non refundable tickets to be refunded without penalty starting today through July 31, 2005.
This action was taken to reduce the impact to customers caused by recent delays and cancellations. The change takes effect immediately and applies to all Alaska Airlines flights 1-999 and Horizon Air flights 2000-2999 through July 31st, 2005. It is not necessary to obtain a waiver as long as the customer's travel is within July 2005. Eligible tickets / itineraries must either originate or complete travel in July 2005.
This change fee policy applies to both revenue and award (Alaska and Horizon
Air) tickets, and AS Mileage Plan partner awards only when there are AS/QX conjunction flights on the ticket
Highlights of the policy:
- All change fees will be waived for passenger travel either starting and/or completing within July 2005.
- Eligible Non-Refundable tickets must be fully unused with itineraries starting travel within July 2005.
- Name Change fees are also waived for tickets starting and/or completing within July 2005.
- Additional collections for reissued tickets will not be waived.
Agencies should report refunds and reissues in the same manner as they have been doing. Alaska Airlines will audit these transactions to ensure that the rules and conditions are being met.
If an Alaska Vacation vacation package is involved, the customer must contact the Vacations Desk at 1-800-468-2248 for handling.

* Is there any time restriction on departure date changes? For
example, they
are traveling July 20 and want to change it to March 20, 2006. Can they do that?
The only restriction is the same as today; one year from outbound travel.
* If a passenger makes a change, will additional collections
apply?
Yes, only the change fee is being waived.
* Is this a one time change fee or can a customer make multiple
changes before
departure?
As long as their travel originates or completes in July, the change fee will be waived. Here are a couple of examples --
-A passenger is traveling July 20 and now changes to August 10...fee is waived. Now they call back and want to change to August 20. Fee is not waived because travel now originates in August. -A passenger is traveling July 3 and changes to July 10; he calls again and changes to July 20. The fee is waived both times because all travel occurs in July. -A passenger is traveling outbound on July 30 and returning August 3, and now wants to change their return to August 6. Will change fees be waived. Yes, because travel originated in July.
* Does this apply to codeshare flights?
The change fee waiver policy only applies to AS/QX operated flights. So, if it's on 027 ticket stock and there's no AS/QX flight, a change fee would apply.
* What documentation is required in the record?
No documentation is required for waiving the change fee during the month of
July, provided that procedures outlined are followed.
* When can a customer a refund a non-refundable fare?
If the customer is scheduled for travel starting in July and chooses to cancel their entire reservation, a refund will be granted without a penalty as long as the ticket is fully unused.
* If the customer cancels their AS/QX award ticket, will their
miles be
redeposited?
