Alaska’s Lucrative Status Match for Delta Elites

https://onemileatatime.com/deals/ala...s-match-delta/

If your SkyMiles status is valid through the end of 2024 and you do have an Alaska Visa Card, you can receive a status match valid through the end of 2024 to one tier higher than you currently have, including MVP Gold 100K.
Say goodbye to upgrades…

Just when there was hope on the horizon for the elite levels to settle down after years of generous promos.. anteater sad that AS decided not to protect their most loyal elites on the 100K tier.

I feel silly earning status by BIS flying. 🤙🏻🥃

If my reading of the status match offer is correct, all of these people will get 4 GGUs? That is ridiculous if true.

How strict is AS on once-per-lifetime matches? I received one 10.5 years ago and would be eligible to get matched to 100k now (currently 75k, so not really a big difference). Any chance? I suppose there is no harm in trying...

And (some) people here were worried about AS diluting the elite pool with people spending their way to status with the 2k EQM/ $10k.

(I will get 2k EQM through that promo. And if all goes well (2k are still MiA, as are some retro credits), I will barely make MVPG75K… just to be bypassed on the waitlist by countless SEA Delta Diamond refugees)

This is a slap on the face…

unless earned 100k will have upgrade priority than those who are matched 100k

Sure, it's discouraging to AS loyal elites, but from a strategic standpoint it seems a smart move. What's an angry AS elite going to do - challenge for Delta status?

I wonder how AS is going to reach their target audience of Delta elites with this offer?

Through blogs and posts on FT? or guerrilla marketing at Delta gates at SEA?

This is likely only going to drive change in Seattle or in limited situations outside that area, because AS has decimated its routes to and from the Bay Area to such an extent that it’s simply not competitive. In Seattle, this could be a bloodbath for those who have actually flown AS loyally, for decades. It would likely be too challenging for AS’ IT department to figure out, but it would be terrific if upgrades could be prioritized based on those whose status has been earned, vs. those whose status has been matched. Wishful thinking.

Exactly.
West coast upgrades will be harder, the rest of the country will be just fine because there aren't many AS flights. Hard to move those DL elites to AS.
DL matched others to Diamond during corona, not a big deal.
If they can barely upgrade people correctly with current tiers, matched 100k vs earned 100k is too much of an ask for their IT.

Who is going to be the first to call or write in to clarify this? Wishful thinking for sure, but it seems only fair?

If AS wasn’t able or willing to do this during the pandemic for those promotions, I highly doubt they would do so now. They can’t even reliably run the upgrade professor as-is.

Good point. I just emailed Mr. C to see if I can get a response nonetheless.

Good for AS. I can only see this making a difference in SEA where DL and AS have somewhat comparable networks. I just hope there's validation of the DL status; I've seen way too many posts on other forums bragging about fraudulent status matches...

I am not based in SEA, but since AS always wants to route me through SEA, I am just as impacted as Seattle elites. My anticipated 2024 MVPG75K status just got downgraded I think I might have made different booking choices earlier this year if I had known then.

Interesting find. As a Delta Diamond through 1/31/25, all I would need to do is get the credit card and match. We have some good options on AA from DCA, and a number of partners doing international flights from IAD.
