Alaska Airlines Cuts 3,000 Flights - January 2024

From Simple Flying:

"North Americans will have close to 500,000 fewer seats with Alaska Airlines this coming winter as the Seattle-based airline looks to shave more than 3,000 flights from its January network. The data retrieved from Cirium looks scarce, as the carrier will reduce multiple services to airports across the continent."

a lot of these look like typical seasonal cutbacks

As noted, NYC market took some cuts compared to last year January schedule. EWR-LAX/SFO reduced to 1x daily vs. 2x daily last year. EWR-PDX/SAN suspended from Jan 8th to Feb 15th (had been mostly daily last year during January). JFK-SFO reduced to 2x daily from 4x last January, JFK-SEA reduced to 2x daily from 3x last January.

Is this compared to July flying or last January's flight levels? Airline will fly less in January than in July isn't much of a headine.

Simpleflying sometimes has interesting articles, and sometimes they seem to be written and edited by algorithm or someone with limited English ability.

both the sea-jfk and sea-bos redeye routes have been removed. i took both extensively over the past few years so this is incredibly unfortunate for me.

It is less flying when compared to last January on a number of routes. Aside from NYC markets mentioned in my post above, SEA-BOS is also less than last January at 2x daily vs. 3x daily last January. IAD routes are also reduced compared to last January/February on IAD-SEA/SFO/LAX. IAD-LAX is suspended from Jan 8th to Feb 15th, and IAD-SFO is suspended from Jan 8th to Mar 14th. There were also reductions on OGG-SJC/SFO and LIH-SJC/SFO routes compared to last year -- routes are Saturday only from Jan 8th to mid-March.

Ouch. But we've been the poor stepchild that keeps getting poorer for years, while the lip service of support for the region continues. After all, we'll be soon able to fly SFO/BUR/SEA/JFK to get to JFK.

More ouch - OAK is going to 2x to both SEA and PDX. So they'll be at 4x/day total OAK service? Can't wait for the eff yew for good OAK announcement.

The article also states the Alaska Air mainline fleet "has grown to 51 aircraft" when it is actually 229. I am going to take the entire alarmist attitude with a grain of salt.
