Meal Selection -- Upgraded less than T-20
My wife and I are flying DFW to SEA tomorrow evening. At check in we noticed 8 open seats in F and were 1 and 2 on the upgrade list.
Given this I was shocked we were not upgraded T-24 at check in, but did get upgraded at T-19:45... essentially 15 minutes after meal selection closed.
In the past we have been upgraded as soon as checkin opens, even before, but never after meal selection closed. I went through the chat help but they said they couldn't help.
Given that we did not pick meals, will we be offered a meal on this flight or should we eat dinner prior to the flight?

Also, if you pre-ordered anything in Y, that will be offered to you first, along with whatever is left. I always preorder the F&C so that in the event that I get upgraded after the meal window, I'll always have that as a backup.

That would be a different airline. IME, unless you've been upgraded at one of the windows, AS doesn't typically process upgrades until several hours inside the check-in window.
Yep. Most pax don't pre-order, and those at the front will usually get first choice.

So let's say I'm in Y and pre-order the cheeseburger, which is not offered in F. If I'm later upgraded to F after the pre-order window closes, I believe that at meal service, I'll be asked if I still want the cheeseburger or if I'd prefer something off the F menu instead (whatever may be left). If I choose to keep the cheeseburger, I would think/hope that I wouldn't be charged for it since I'm now in F, but can anyone confirm?

If accepting the main cabin meal, I'd be prepared to pay for it.
