AS9540 BRO-LAX Charter 19MAY

Curious if anyone has any info on this flight? AS9540 19MAY, looks like was going Brownsville, TX (BRO) to Los Angeles, CA (LAX). Crew stopped the climb at 2000 ft and returned to BRO after a bird strike. Curious if anyone knows who they were chartering for?

per FR24, N514AS had come in from LAX; AS pulled N928AK in from AUS to make up the flight several hours later (and cancelled the AUS-SFO for which that jet had initially been scheduled)

completely speculating, I wouldn’t be surprised if the LAX<>BRO flights were CBP charters

Interesting. A quick check of FR24 shows AS has been running BRO-LAX charters about twice a week going back to early April. I agree above it probably has something to do with CBP.

MAYBE something SpaceX related? They have a big presence in BRO, so maybe shuttling employees?

Also BRO to Orlando. Looks like their standard tourism-driven routes.

This was a SpaceX employee charter. I have a friend who was on the incident flight and got a video of the bird strike.

BUR-BRO and BRO-MCO are also SpaceX charters due to the launch site at Cape Canaveral.

I am surprised there isnt a closer airport they (and others) could use. I suppose landing at the shuttle landing facility is not an option?

well, Melbourne/ MLB is closer, but AS already has ground support and staffing in place at MCO … they would have to contract for that sort of stuff anywhere else

Makes sense, but. my comment about BRO-MCO was about Avelo flights. Might be same reason, thought..
