Just a couple of interesting data points, I had an SFO-MCO trip last week that was a client booked Y round trip. I died at #1 on both flts. (they were full weeks out), but in 6A for both, the FAs gave me the breakfast sandwich on the outbound and beef/ginger wrap on return with a thank you for being elite and nary a request for credit card, just a smile, without having pre-ordered. Great crews on both.

Nearly everything was sold out, so I was watching things more carefully than usual. Surprise surprise.. UG professor was inebriated again.
SNA-SEA was J2 for a while and I was #2. T-24 passed, J moved to 0 and the WL didn't appear to process in-order. I moved to another SNA-SEA flight with J1 and scored an upgrade.
For SEA-SFO, the UG processor ran by the time I executed a SDC at T-23.5, but I was #1 on the WL for J0. EF and AS booking engine confirmed J0 Y0, but the AS Flight Status page said "Available First Class Seats: 3".. interesting, but I wasn't counting on the upgrade. Around T-8, I received an email notification that I had been upgraded.

Myself get unwanted upgrades since my +1 is on BA miles redemption and we want to sit together. But the upgrade processor came too strong and forced the upgrade twice after I called twice to get myself downgraded.
SAN GA manager is super nice, and also I guess Y is 100% full with a FA standing by. So GA gave the upgrade to my +1.
Also, F flew out with a few empty, and the FA sit at the original Y seat of my +1.
