Ended up changing the flight to take advantage of more time with family and friends.
Are there never any connection options? I would have switched if a stop in PDX or BOI were included as an option...odd.

Unfortunately not this time.

To add, getting the vouchers ended up being a bigger ordeal than I expected. Despite receiving an email immediately after confirming the new flights with instructions on how to redeem the vouchers. The system never actually issued the voucher, calling in customer care required the agent to dig into the ticket notes to see that the voucher was notated but it was never pushed to issue. At the end, I got my voucher, but I did not expect a 45 minute call with customer care to have this taken care of.

had similar experiences. Have stopped considering for anything less than 100 because too much PITA.

Could be they're experimenting and doing it on flights where it doesn't matter much, just to find out what the uptake is, before they start trying to do it when it might make a difference.

A risk at $35 is that they're just going to get people who bought the cheapest flight of the day and were going to SDC anyway and they don't get good data.

Same for my housemate on ORD-SEA in early June. Was offered $35 a few days before departure, and he decided to go with the original flight and hope for VDB. Flight went out with empty seats even after clearing standbys.

Got this offer for $75 (DCA - SFO) and taking them up on it to leave a day early. However, got the ticket changed and the email with travel certs to redeem, but am getting an error message every time I put in the info! Ugh. So back to watching chat/customer care off and on all day waiting for them to come up. I don't know what the issue is... I put in the city of issuance, date, last name and last 4 digits of ticket number but keep getting a note that the claim cannot be found. Shouldn't the credit be in the system pretty much immediately?

this seems to be the MO of the process. Have tried to do this 4 times and only successfully executed twice. As I’ve previously mentioned when it was for $95 I hung in there for the 40 minutes. When it was for less I just hung up and now ignore.

I am trying both the chat and the phone, and the phone just hung up on after about 40 minutes. Good times. Where did all the service go? My chat window is still waiting, though it says approx 17 minutes and that was now pushing what, 45 minutes. It's like a game of chicken wondering which of us (AS or the customer) is gonna give up first.

The way you're describing the issue sounded awfully similar to my experience. The way the customer care rep explained it to me was that the certificates created by the rebooking never pushed through, it simply notated it on the reservation, hence the need to manually issue the certificates. On the plus side, the rep was able to deposit the certificate into my wallet.

Same for my flight last week where I was offered $35. There wasn’t even anyone on the F waitlist when I got to the airport because everyone had already cleared (including me and my companion as AA elites).

So it sounds like the credit they are talking about is one that requires actual human intervention....considering the typical wait times for customer care, $35 seems outrageously low given the additional time investment.

I received the email offering me to take an earlier flight or a later flight to PIT for $115. I would need a lot more including hotel room if I was to take the earlier option to change my plans, but I'm certain that a family or someone on leisure travel would jump at the opportunity if they had more flexibility.

They could easily just add credits to our wallets rather than issue vouchers. I feel like they bank on the fact that not everyone is going to use these funds and adding extra steps increases that likelihood.

Perhaps. Though that probably means they won’t have any repeat customers for this offer. So perhaps Hanlon’s Razor applies: "never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."

Reading this comment made me go look back at the voucher email. If I was careless I would've just stopped reading at the validity date, but then as you read further down theres a section that states you need to redeem them within 30 days of issuance. Food for thought as to what this program/offer really amounts to.
