How do we look up availability for SWU w/o an AA EXP account? ExpertFlyer I'd assume?

Of course I called the AA number and the agent has no idea what I'm talking about.

Has anyone tried this yet? If I go to EF and confirm that upgrade space is available, then go book the coach ticket, then somehow get through to AA, the upgrade should be possible, right? I don't want to be stuck in international coach waiting for an upgrade. It's not clear where on the AA upgrade list you would be either. I suppose one could book, then cancel if the upgrade isn't available, but that's a hassle.

ExpertFlyer is the way to go, but you must search using the “Award & Upgrades” tab, and search segment-by-segment. C upgrade space a subset of revenue business C, so results may be inaccurate if you search another way.

Good luck trying to find C upgradable space. If anyone finds decent space on any particular route, it might be useful to share here.

You’ll want to search for C space for main cabin > business, or A space from business > first. ExpertFlyer will be your best bet to look for upgrade space.

In my inbox this morning:

As an MVP Gold 100K, you’re always eligible for complimentary upgrades upon availability when you fly on American Airlines within the US, or between the US and Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, or Central America. And now, as a qualified MVP Gold 100K for 2022, we’re pleased to provide you with two complimentary systemwide upgrades on American Airlines, which can be used to take your global travel to the next level.

So it sounds like these are not route restricted like last year!?!
I want to use these to TLV
Also slightly weird they say “Enjoy 2 one-way space available upgrades” yet they only give me 1 code

Is the code meant to be book by, confirm by or fly by 12/31/2022?

You can use the code twice, just like last year.

Terms are here. I expect it'll work like last year where the code must be attached before expiration. If date of travel is after expiration date, you must have it confirmed.
