Spend $5,000 earn 1,000 EQM on AS Visa Card

Title says it all, no limit on EQM earned, interesting offer if you have to spend already.

According to the terms you need to receive the email to qualify for this promo.

Link to more information: https://www.alaskaair.com/content/deals/special-offers/eqm?eml=EML-_PTS_20220311_Spend_and_Get_EQM_Elite_20220311ri mary_learnmore_cta&launch_id=35497165&contact_id=1-9NJ8JLR&utm_campaign=20220311&utm_medium=Email&utm _source=PROMOTIONAL

Edit to add, this is only for 2022 qualifying year with qualifying purchases from March 1st 2022 to December 31st 2022. I don't know if mod's would want to merge this with the existing BofA promo thread, but given this is for 2022 I figured it warranted a new thread.

woof.. $5k for 1k miles is rough. certainly not going to get me to put more spend on the card (especially compared to 2021 promo).

Perhaps AS is just getting us used to spending our way to Status for the inevitable AS Loyalty Point scheme. Only $500,000 to 100K provided you have 24 segments. Isn't $5 spend per 1 EQM a smoking good deal? And let's not forget the 15K RDM if we spend it all on AS.

If you already have to spend, I guess. Or if you want to bump miles a little if you are traveling. I wish we would have opened ours before this month, but 1k miles isn't all that much I guess. Would rather just fly for status miles and it would be cheaper, but that is me. That said, I wouldn't necessarily mind when we either rebuild our house or build a new one, if they were to do this one again in the future.

That said, I think someone mentioned that if people use miles for a discount on a flight rather than just full award ticket, that those miles still count. Is that true? We will have a lot of miles after our trip to Alaska, and I am interested in seeing if I can swing at least getting the first tier qualified without having to go too far out of the way to do it.

As per the link that the OP posted:

This one-time promotion is limited to customers receiving this email and is non-transferable.

I did not get the email, so i assume I am not eligible.

The fine print said accounts opened prior to this month when I looked at it, but beyond that I couldn't say what would trigger it. I do know I wouldn't qualify because of that.

Thanks for posting this. Wife and I both got the email, but I might have missed it in the daily flood of “exciting offers” without this thread.

Without knowing if I will actually need the EQM to reach a higher level at the end of the year, it is a pretty expensive offer. I will probably shift about $5k - $10k of otherwise unbonused spend to the card and use my AS card for AS purchases (instead of CSR or Amex Plat).

(this reminds me of the 10k EQM I used to be able to earn with my Chase UA Platinum card. 5k for $5k in UA spend and another 5k for $25k (?) in annual spend. The difference is that back in those days there weren’t a ton of bonus categories on other cards that made it expensive to shift the spend to the Chase card…. and back then the EQM I earned more than once made the difference between Gold and 1K…. Or saved me the back pain of a coach MR)

As a comparison, the AMEX Delta Reserve offers 15,000 MQMs for $30,000 in spend, or a comparable 2,500 MQMS for $5,000 spend. Higher spend required, and a higher annual fee.

It would be nice to see BofA offer a premium card similar to the AMEX Delta Reserve with Alaska Lounge membership/access and companion certificate good for first class fares.

The AS Visa is kind of a yawn as far as bonus categories so shifting my spend away from my CSR and Chase Biz cards would definitely eat into the EQM "profit". I mainly got/keep the card for the companion fare and the $25 lounge day passes.

I have both the AS Visa and DL Reserve, and was planning to move everything to the AS card once I hit the spend waiver and first EQM boost of 15k miles at $30k of spend. Didn't get the e-mail though and my account was opened before last month.

Haven’t received the email yet either. Hoping I do. This might help me get to 75k based on flying and spending.

It seems like I never get these targeted email for Visa spending, Not sure what the target audience is, but I don't think it is me.

I got it, while my wife didn't, maybe because I have had the card for longer and use it more. $5K is a lot for 1K EQM.
