Fiji Airways (FJ) Promo Is Back (Double Miles and Reduced Redemption Rates)
Not as lucrative as the pre-covid promo that never really happened but it is nice to see Alaska Airlines putting this one back on the table.
see: https://www.alaskaair.com/promo/fj2201
As usual, the wording is not very specific but the promo does apply to both directions.
Redeem a flight for up to 50% fewer Mileage Plan miles on Fiji Airways between now and March 31, 2022. Travel must be complete by November 30, 2022.
To note: Fiji Airways still offers economy fares which accrue at 100% which makes this promotion expecially lucrative. I already booked one return as a S Class from Australia to USA return for $865 USD and redeemed a one-way from Australia to El Paso (Stopover Seattle) for only 20K.
Fiji Airways is a solid airline with excellent cabin crew, beautiful A350 cabins, average catering and mediocre ground support if there are delays.
Unfortunately, the business class redemption offer of 40K is largely a fantasy because of limited or non-existent C Class seats availability on the USA-Fiji leg to end of November. That said, there are some C class seats on the HNL-NAN portion. Lots of availablity on the Fiji-Australia portion.

I took advantage of this promo and booked a September itinerary into Melbourne, out of Sydney, with a 3 day layover in Fiji on the return.
Unfortunately, it doesnt look like there is any availability in business class on the long haul legs, so I just ended up doing the 20K each way in economy deal. Not worth it for me personally to use double the miles just to have business class on the ~2 hour PDX to SFO or LAX legs and the ~4 hour NAN to MEL/SYD legs (which are also limited).
If anyone here sees any availability for those long haul legs pop up, please give a shout in this thread - would obviously prefer that and Id rebook.

Maybe I'm missing it somewhere, but could you please tell me how to identify Fiji's fare class PRIOR to booking? I was able to ID them briefly on the app but now that seems permanently stalled. I really don't want to book a fare that provides a 50% earning (prior to this promo). You mention you booked an S class and I'm wondering where you found that info. Thanks for any help.

I want to potentially book something is this promo. Even though the economy is good, the business deal is better especially if you can get in lie flats. Has anyone seen any availability from LAX or San Francisco to NAN? It is true that there is some availability from Honolulu, but its all on a 737 as far as I can tell, which means no lie flat on the longer leg, making it hard to justify. Do they ever fly NAN to HNL With A330 or A350? If not, has anyone found a good way to utilize the 50% bonus miles promotion? Is there any good fairs from Los Angeles to either Australia or New Zealand that would earn a lot of EQM using this promotion ?

S Fares are available from Australia to the USA. I am not sure about the other way. In the past, it was always easier to get 100% fares out of New Zealand and sometimes Australia to the USA but not so common the other way round. Not impossible though.

As far as purchasing a seat for the double miles accrual promo, fares out of Australia / New Zealand are consistently around $200 cheaper than from the USA. It has been like that since I can remember. Probably due to what the market can bare and perhaps exchange rate differences. I have never seen Fiji Airways operate an airbus out of HNL in recent memory. Keep in mind that HNL is a smaller market for FJ.

SFO/LAX-NAN J availability is virtually non-existent right now so this is basically an economy class promotion in my book. If you're a couple or group of 4, you're better off flying the older A330s out of SFO which have pairs of seats on each side rather than the A350 which has 3 seats on each side. I'm still trying to decide if this will work for me--they are not a full OW partner which means no preferred seating (or even lounge access in NAN) on a relatively long flight--sounds like just getting seat assignments is somewhat difficult.

I am unable to see any C Class seats from mainland USA to Fiji right through to November. I am sad that a promo is offered and yet no seats have been released to take advantage of the 40K business class promo from the USA to the South Pacific. A bit scammy really! The only availability is the odd C Class 737 seat out of HNL. Perhaps this will all change and Fiji Airways will release some seats so that it can be possible to actually book a Business Class seat right through to New Zealand / Australia.

FYI, discussion on J award availability is here: Fiji Air pulled all business class LAX-NAN-LAX
Long story short: it seemed to be pulled at some point in December. It was recently re-loaded for February/March, but that seems to be dried up now. Note that J fares ex-NAN are significantly cheaper than ex-US if you're able to take advantage of that.

I was thinking of paying cash and getting the double miles but even if you can get 100% miles and get the double bonus, you only get 100% EQM , and on the few days that worked for me for cash tickets, I could only find 50% earning on the way There and 100% earning on The way back.
