I have a ticket on AA in fare class V. Do I read it correctly that my earned AS EQM is at 75%? Aside from any potential first class upgrade, elite status chocolate and pilot handshake coming my way that is.

Did you fly yet? How did this end up posting? AS messed up the chart here; C is both a revenue class and an upgrade class. On AA paid C earns the same as D when earning as a distance-based fare.

Could anyone confirm that we don't get miles added towards our MM status when flying AA but crediting miles to AS? I see that EQM, bonus miles, and segments flown on AA are added to my AS progress, however, miles in the MM tab remain unchanged.

From Membership Benefits page:

Million Miler

A million miles go a long way

Members who fly 1,000,000 miles on Alaska are granted MVP Gold status for life.

Alaska reported my miles earned from a trip in V on AA the day after. EQM 0.75 is fine, but RDM 1.53?

MVPG would give you 1.5x including status bonus.

How much were you expecting? The base is EQM & RDM; Elite bonus applies to the base, in this case base is 75% of the miles flown

Correct; not as easy when Elite bonus isn't 100%

On AA, fare classes G & V earn 75% of the miles flown as your base. Flying 1000 miles will earn a base EQM of 750 miles in Mileage Plan.

You elite bonus is 50%, 100%, 125% and 150% of the base miles for MVP, MVPG, 75K and 100K respectively. Your Elite bonus applies to the base miles earned. Base miles earned is always 100% of flown miles on AS metal.

RDM = base + base×Elite bonus.

MVP = 0.75 + (0.75)(0.5) = 1.125 --> 1.13
MVPG 0.75 + (0.75)(1.0) = 1.500 --> 1.50
75K = 0.75 + (0.75)(1.25) = 1.688 --> 1.69
100K = 0.75 + (0.75)(1.5) = 1.875 --> 1.86

These would be the factors for a 75% base earn on miles flown.

Of course that is a little cumbersome. A better approach is to consider rewriting the formula.

RDM = base(1 + Elite Bonus)

Considering base = (miles flown)(%) and replacing base in the prior formula we have

RDM = (miles flown)(%)(1 + elite bonus)

LAX-MIA is 2342 miles (3 miles shorter than LAX-ANC) Flying AA in V class. For a 100K

RDM = (2342)(0.75)(1 + 1.5) = 4391.25 --> 4392

MP earnings AA LAX-MIA V fare.

I got 0.75 x 2.0, but would have expected my RDM to be 0.75 x 2.25. I would have expected my 75K wife’s RDM to be 0.75 x 2.0, instead she got 0.75 x 2.25, and we weren’t even on the same reservation!

Elite Status? What was the route? Was it less than 500 miles? Are you Gold or 75K? Your wife, as a 75K, would earn base + 1.25 × base (elite bonus) = 2.25× base & base is 0.75 × miles flown (minimum 500) so her earnings look correct. If you are Gold, your calculation at 0.75×2.0 is also correct.

If you are 75K, then it should be the same as your wife. If you are 100K, it should be 0.75×2.50.

You’re right, and I remembered incorrectly. 75K and 100K are 2.25 and 2.50 respectively.

https://www.alaskaair.com/content/mi...rship-benefits

So my wife’s 0.75 x 2.25 is correct, while I was somehow calculated as Gold instead of the 100K that I am.

You mentioned that you and your wife's tickets were book separately. Before calling AS, confirm that you were booked into V class on the AA flight. If it was N or S class, the earnings are 50% and your RDM would be 0.50×2.50, minimum 1250 RDM.

The way I remember sub 100% fare claases on AA:

75% - (G)reater (V)alue
50% - (N)othing (S)pecial
25% - (Q)uite (O)ffensive
0% - (B)e warned

For verification I tried to look up the reservation by confirmation code, but it’s gone. Calling AA might do the trick?

But I’m 99% sure it’s V. The two upcoming returns are V too, and all four cost exactly the same.

It's in your email confirmation from AA.

Argh! I misread a 7 as a 1 on an iPhone screen, leaving 600 fewer miles. It adds up now.

I reserved through Amex Travel and noticed no mention of fare class later on.
